Today, I told my boyfriend that I didn't want to go out with him because I was having a fat day. After ten minutes of fighting, he threw a ring box on the floor and stormed out. I basically refused his proposal because of my body issues. FML

Today, I broke up with my boyfriend because I was tired of waiting for him to propose. It turns out he was going to propose and had the ring and everything, but I fucked it all up. FML
Today, I went to go meet my boyfriend at a restaurant to tell him it just wasn't working out. Before I could do so, he proposed. I had to tell him no, so he started to cry and ran out. Everyone looked at me like some kind of monster. FML
Today, my boyfriend's proposal speech somehow ended with him breaking up with me. FML
Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I went shopping for an engagement ring. We ended up breaking up in the process. FML
Today, I told my boyfriend of ten months that I'm not ready for marriage. A few hours later he proposed at my grandma's 85th birthday party. She cried when I said no. FML
Today, I tried to break up with my boyfriend. He said no. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She said yes, but the ring turned out to be quite tight on her finger. She then chewed me out, saying that I can't do anything right, then changed her answer to no. FML

Well I don't understand why he couldnt of done it another day, but then again I've never planned to propose.. But I also hate how girls will look pretty and find something small thats wrong with them and complain about it..

I can't believe the number of YDIs. Women are constantly told that their worth is based on their appearance. 97% of women have body image issues. Saying "stop being stupid", "stop having low self-esteem", is akin to telling someone to just "stop being depressed". It just doesn't work like that. Self-esteem is complex and deeply rooted, and poor self-image can be really destructive. I don't think she deserves it - I feel bad for both of them.

It would be more accurate to say that she should learn to deal with her issues in ways that do not hurt those around her. I hope she realizes how destructive her "fat day" problem is, and gets some help. If she is old enough to receive a proposal, she should be old enough to take responsibility for her actions.

"old enough to receive a proposal"? What type of shit is that? You don't control what other people give you (in this case the option of marriage). She wasn't expecting a proposal. It's alright to refuse a date sometimes even from your bf/fiancé/spouse. It's just today that she's having a fat day.

If just having a "fat day" is enough to keep you from leaving the house, maybe it's time you seek therapy. That goes beyond normal self-esteem issues. There are a number of low-cost services in almost all major cities if this seems like it would be too expensive for you. Hope things get better, and that you can your boyfriend can talk it out!

That's horrible. Who doesn't go out bc they feel fat? Your prolly not even fat prolly one of those skinny girls that don't weigh a thing but thinks they're huge. And it shouldnt matter anyway bc you obviously been with him for a while if he was proposing, you shouldn't have issues like that. Poor boy.

Except the vast majority of people with low self esteem have it despite a lifetime of being told their beautiful and with constant reassurance from everyone else. This isn't some status where one can claim to be a victim and, low self esteem or not, there's a line where it turns into embarrassing yourself through wallowing in your own self pity and fishing for compliments. I have absolutely no time for people like OP. How dare you cancel someone else's plans, even if you thought it was simply a normal dinner date, because you're having a fat day. She didn't have a chance to turn him down since he threw a box at her and walked away. She just didn't want to go out. He could have made a nice dinner or lunch or ordered something in and proposed that way. People don't have to go out to get a marriage proposal.
