Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in public. She happily said yes, and the surrounding crowd cheered for us. About 10 minutes later, after the excitement died down, she leaned over and quietly said, "Actually, I don't want to marry you. I only said yes so I wouldn't disappoint the crowd." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in front of about 75 people in the fanciest restaurant in town. She told me she was already engaged, while holding up her right hand. FML
Today, after my girlfriend telling me for years that she would marry me in a heartbeat, I finally proposed. She said no. FML
Never do this
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend at the museum where we met, with a violinist playing her favourite song. She said yes but later said she felt put on the spot in public, and if I’d proposed in private, she probably would've said no. I’m in my feelings trying not to cry right now. FML
Today, I took my girlfriend of nearly 2 years out to dinner so I could propose. When the waiter brought the check, I caused a bit of a scene to get everyone's attention. When I got on my knee and proposed, she said no and asked if I could hurry up and pay, because she was embarrassed. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in the food court at the mall. When she said "Yes", the entire food court broke out in applause, and my girlfriend and I were then escorted out of the mall for "starting a riot." I never knew clapping was a crime. FML
Today, at a restaurant, I happily watched as my boyfriend of three years got down on his knees and proposed to me. Before I could say yes and hug him, a girl flung herself at him, kissed him and shouted, "Yes!" With us still highly confused, she then ran away. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She didn't say no, she didn't faint, and she didn't cry. She just stared at me blankly and said, "But... why...?" FML
I guess that's a "NO!" then?
Today, I thought it would be romantic to propose to my girlfriend during halftime at a local football game. I arranged everything with the stadium staff. When the moment came, I got down on one knee, only for her to hiss, "Are you serious? Right here?" She ran off, leaving me kneeling in front of hundreds of people. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She promptly had a panic attack and screamed, "No!" FML
Today, I gathered both mine and my girlfriend's families secretly to a restaurant. I paid the restaurant to play romantic music, and paid for the best table available. As soon as we finished our meal, our families gathered around and I proposed. She laughed and said no way. FML

I feel for you OP, but at least she had the courtesy to not humiliate you in front of dozens of people.

Seems like she's busy pleasing everyone else but you, that's brutal man.

I actually think she did the right thing, it would be worse for you if she said "No" in front of the whole crowd. Oh, and you shouldn't be such a romantic guy and you should have asked her friends instead, or asked her indirectly.

That was nice of her. Would you have preferred to be humiliated in front of everyone?

...This is why you don't propose in public. Many people never come forward like your girlfriend did and remain in the marriage unhappy because they felt pressured to say yes. Marriage is a private love between two people - why does everyone else need to know you're proposing?

Sounds like your better without, she's more concerned about her image no one needs someone like that. Proposing in public takes a lot of guts

My bf proposed exactly a week ago. I'm glad he is shy because he did it on the beach where no one was around.. I woulda said yes either way but it's much more intimate and way less pressure this way. At least she spared you some ebarrassment though, sorry to hear she said no :(

Atleast she had enough respect to not embarrass you, and chose to tell you on the side.
