Today, I paid $500 for a gym membership after moving into a brand new house, since 12 years of software development has taken its toll. When I told my instructor about my goal to lose 35lbs in two months, he simply said, "Yeah... That's not going to happen. Try another gym," and left promptly. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Man vs Boy
Today, it was my first day at a new gym, which cost a fortune. Some skinny teen who had clearly never lifted in his life dropped a weight while I was stretching and broke my ankle. Money down the drain. FML
That one awkward guy
Today, I tried to compliment a girl at my gym by saying, “Wow, you’re really strong!” She smiled and said, “Thanks.” Then, probably to be polite, she said, “You’re really… trying.” That was her actual word choice. I went home and considered canceling my membership, but I found out that it's designed to be almost impossible to leave the gym. FML
Today, I bought a $300 gym membership that gives me access to the company's non-premium gyms. The non-premium gyms are all closed due to construction, because they're being turned into premium gyms. FML
Today, I bought a $450 elliptical machine to get in shape of the new year. After 5 hours of putting it together, I realized that all the ceilings in every room of my apartment are too low for me to use it without hitting my head. I can't return it. FML
First impressions
Today, I joined a gym. I’m overweight and not very athletic, so I was nervous. I looked around and tried a treadmill. I start walking at a chill pace, then got ambitious and cranked it to a "light jog." Within seconds, I tripped, fell, and sent the emergency stop button flying across the room. The gym staff ran over and I swear someone said, “Well, at least he’s trying.” FML
Truth
Today, it's easier to buy a house than it is to get out of a gym contract. FML
Know your place
Today, I went to the new gym I recently signed up for and started exercising in the men-filled weights room, despite being intimidated by them and the strange looks they were giving me. Workout over, I left the room and saw in front of me a door marked, "Women's weights room." Oh. FML
Today, I mentioned to my boyfriend that I want to start working out and get rid of my holiday weight. His response? "Okay, just don't join a gym. People will have to see you there." FML
Just the two of us
Today, I was at the gym, well intent on trying a new workout class. I was the only person in the class and the instructor was clearly disappointed. He reluctantly gave me the class but I could tell he was hating the whole experience. FML
Take it easy
Today, I went to the gym for the first time in months. I was so out of shape that I couldn't even finish my warm-up. FML

He kind of did his job there though....the average healthy weight-loss rate is approximately 1-2 lbs per week ish? Weight-loss as rapid as you wanted could really screw you up.

35 pounds in 2 months is really a bit high but 20 to 25 should be possible.

I've been told 3 pounds a week is a safe amount to lose, but he could have had more tact.

He didn't really do his job at all. His job is to inform, and assist - not to just turn away from clients. It only takes a minute to explain that OP's goals are unhealthy but they can come up with a plan to lose the weight at a more realistic pace.

Yeah, but why did he tell him to try another gym? Doing his job would be "that's not a very realistic goal, let me help you choose a better one."

35 in two months isn't abnormal at all if OP is 300+ pounds. Usually people that heavy have very rapid weight loss at the start and then it levels out.

To OP: I'm 100% sure that, no matter how unrealistic your goals were, the personal trainer or instructor or whomever was "assisting" you was being a 100% dick. He should help you formulate a plan of action rather than effectively telling you to **** off, if only because that's kinda why they hire those people in the first place. The reality is that, for most people, it doesn't matter how much you exercise if you eat like shit. If you have healthy eating patterns, you will naturally shed weight, though exercise moves it along more efficiently. High-intensity interval training and the like helps burn calories in a short amount of time, and can assist if you are particularly busy. Set goals for yourself, and don't kick yourself if everything doesn't work perfectly the way you planned it!

Actually about 5 pounds a week is the healthy maximum

I agree with this BUT he should have been more professional - tried to talk with you to set more realistic goals, not just up and leave.

I've lost weight rapidly. not only does it make you feel like shit, the loose skin looks worse than being fat, imo. it's disgusting. not only is my body still gross, I cant even fly away with these bat wings. dont. do. that.

Sometimes it's best to be honest. If they don't think it would be healthy to lose that much in that space of time I could understand. However if it was said rudely they need to understand better customer service. Is it refundable?

Weight loss doesn't come over night. It will take time, and it's impossible to predict how fast or slow it will be for you to get fit or lose 35lbs. I suggest you put your ego aside and get to work, that is the only way to sure success. Good luck.

not to mention the fact that you're ideally replacing fat with muscle so your weight might not go down. I think weight is less important than looking fit honestly.

Unless you are over 100 pounds overweight, that isn't going to happen and is probably dangerous. Agreed he probably should have explained, but you're probably the 1000th person to set an unrealistic goal.

Really that trainer should quit if he's gonna start snapping on people. Weight loss is a complicated thing that not even experts can 100% understand - because it varies from person to person - so a trainer should be prepared for clients to be uninformed for the most part. Hell I work in a cookie store and grown adults go "Uhm. The pink one? the sprinkles?" when it says "sugar cookie" right in front of it. Never expect your customers to know ANYTHING. Lol.

35 pounds... Hey that's the amount of asshole the gym instructor has! Seriously though, he could have been way nicer to a potential member. FML

16 kg in two months, while certainly possible, is really unhealthy weight loss and you'd be losing a lot of muscle mass as well as body fat. you've got to remember that muscles weigh more than fat so having a slower weight loss while still maintaining muscle mass or even slowly building muscle mass is much better. 15 years of bodybuilding experience have taught and shown me this repeatedly, good luck! :)

that person is a major dick, but they're not wrong. anything more than 2 pounds a week of weight loss is unhealthy and could even kill you. You should still report them to the gym staff though. They don't need to be doing personal training if they're gonna act like that.
