Today, I overheard my mother-in-law and sister-in-law over the baby monitor. They were talking about how much better off my daughter would be if I were to die. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Benefits
Today, I overheard my mother and sister talking so I stopped to eavesdrop. I recently enlisted in the Marines, and they were talking about what they would do with the money if I died. FML
Today, I overheard my girlfriend telling her friend, "Actually, it's a good thing she died, she was quite a bitch." She was talking about my mother. FML
Today, I overheard my in-laws talking about me. It started off with light insults and ended with, "People like her are the reason murder ain't always wrong". FML
Favoritism
Today, I overheard my mother-in-law say to her daughter "I can't wait for you to make me a real grandma." I'm pregnant with their first grandchild. FML
Motherly love
Today, I overheard my mother saying that if murder were legal, there would be absolutely no chance that I wouldn’t have been killed as a baby. FML
Nice family you've got there
Today, while chatting with my in-laws, I told them about my upcoming spinal surgery. Soon after, when I went to get us some drinks, I overheard them murmuring about how many surgeries I've already had, how I'm a drain on the healthcare system, and how I should ideally just die. FML
Priorities
Today, I was feeling depressed. I overheard my mom crying on the phone. She said, “If my daughter kills herself, who’s going to do the dishes?” FML
Today, my mother-in-law confessed that for the longest time, she had fantasies about killing me for "ruining" her daughter's life, basically because I'm not wealthy enough for my mother-in-law's standards. She made sure to let me know the situation hasn't changed at all. FML
Today, my daughter apparently has had enough of my mother-in-law's favoritism and constant bashing of me by telling her, "Grandma, might I highly recommend death at this point?" She's 7. FML
Tense situation
Today, while talking to my sister, I explained to her that the reason I hope I end up having a girl is I want my daughter to love me the way I "used" to love my own mother. I didn't mean to say it in the past tense. My sister told my mom. She's planning my baby shower. FML

Step 1: Call them into whatever room you have the receiver in. Step 2: Go into the baby's room and start talking about how great baby monitors are. Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit

Well OP the solution is simple. Fake your death and see what happens. JK I'm sure they don't know your daughter like you do, any kid would be lost without their mother, I know I would be

Talk to your husband about what you heard them say.

i would say, 'kill them with kindness' but that seems a little heavy-handed in this situation.

I'd have blatantly walked out and messed wuth the monitor and said it's amazing how these little devices pick up even the smallest of sounds. then looked them in the eye and said any child would be lost without their mother and it'd be horrible to wish that on any child especially baby's name. that remark can be used at any time and it's letting them know that you heard them. bonus if you get hubby to tell them how your child needs you and any more talk of your death isn't allowed in your house etc or around your child

I would tell your husband what they said then tell them they aren't welcome back because you don't want that negativity around your daughter.

Some people are absolutely insane. My sister in law is, and we told her constantly to stop having children because 1) her pregnancies nearly kill her every time and 2) she pawns her kids off on other people to take care of instead of doing it herself (and no, she doesn't work, so it's not me complaining she's sending her kids to day care so she can go to a job. She just legitimately only watches her kids when she can't find someone else to do it for her). We don't know the kind of person or mother OP is, and in my experience people don't just maliciously say someone is better off without a parent for no reason.

Maybe his mother is the one who shouldn't have been the mother in the first place nor her daughter for thinking that of her. As you said we don't know her yet you threw her in the ocean with your brothers deadbeat. Yes they do make them comments, my ex in-laws did and now my ex doesn't live with them either but MY parents. If that's the case hope mom throws the trash out the baby doesn't need judgement by family They'll receive enough from others. But definitely would like a follow up.

I was giving an anecdotal response based on my experiences. People can say all they want that "it's horrible to say something like that!" and have zero basis, and they are so lucky to have no basis, for why someone would WANT to say a child would be better off without the parent who is not really a parent. I was giving my basis of why I've said my nieces and nephews would be better off without said parent and why I don't think people just say "she would be better off without her" for no reason at all.
