Today, my daughter apparently has had enough of my mother-in-law's favoritism and constant bashing of me by telling her, "Grandma, might I highly recommend death at this point?" She's 7. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I overheard my daughter compliment my mother by saying "My mom is way flabbier than you, Grandma." When I told her later that she hurt my feelings, she told me to "man up." She's seven. FML
Anger issues
Today, without context, I overheard my daughter saying that she would “literally rather have mercury poisoning than have her mother yell at her one more time.” She’s 24. FML
Today, my daughter told me she wanted to divorce me. FML
Stranger danger
Today, my five-year-old daughter is absolutely miserable and constantly putting herself down, as she has been for a week. What happened a week ago? She bumped into a stranger at Walmart, apologized, and the guy told her, “Nope, not good enough. You need to die.” Who says that to a child? FML
But mah granbabies!
Today, my mother was guilting my wife and I for freezing embryos as a delay tactic to deny her grandchildren. Fed up, I told her, "Why don't you throw in a 'You'll miss me when I'm dead' to finish this guilt trip?" Now, she's crying and my father wants to murder me. FML
Today, my daughter-in-law taught my 4-year-old grandson to burst into tears and yell, "Am I not good enough for you?" whenever I ask her if she's going to have any more children. FML
Nice family you've got there
Today, a 7-year-old girl came up to me and told me to go fuck myself. I told her to watch her language or else I'd tell her parents. Her mom happened to be nearby and actually heard the conversation; she came up to me and told me to go fuck myself as well. FML
Today, I overheard my mother-in-law and sister-in-law over the baby monitor. They were talking about how much better off my daughter would be if I were to die. FML
Bad influence
Today, it's been one week since my demented grandma babysat my five-year-old daughter while my husband took me to a fancy restaurant. Now she's taken to screaming and calling me a "damn commie" whenever I discipline or say no to her. FML
Today, my mother straight up admitted that she would murder me if God told her to. FML

...kids say the darnedest things. "See, Grandma? When a 7-year-old dares to say something like that...it's bad."

Oh yeah... My friend's mother-in-law had a hell of a wake-up call when the 3 year old said "I don't like Grandma because she's mean to mommy." Kids pick up on these things, and they have no filter or tact when it comes to the truth.

I'm confused. Favoritism towards whom? Towards the OP's wife (her daughter), or other sons-in-law, other grandchildren? I can't figure this one out.
Nadine 21
I assume OP's husband has other siblings who are also married, and the MIL is nicer to them.

My iPhone app and web version show the OP to be male. I'm glad you agree the wording is ambiguous and you need to make assumptions to figure out what the story means.

I would get her a nicely curled moustache so she can twirl it whenever she makes such remarks.

She is 7 and smart. Honestly, better make it clear to her that you realised the favoritism, hoping your spouse/partner will say something too so things will get better. My own grandma favored my cousin over me to the point she said mean things, and while my mother knew it and wanted to say something, my father was afraid of upsetting his mother, so she went on. I have grown up and I see her less now (gladly) but I learnt she has started to became like this with my younger brothers too. I don't want to start a fight first, so I'm just waiting for my grandmother to say something bad in my presence again ... I hope you won't reach that point. Good luck.

I basically had to cut mine out of my life for the same reason. It was tolerable when my grandfather was alive and kept her in check. The final straw for me was when she blew off my wedding because they set the one son up to fail and he was coming. You don’t give a gambling addict control of your money, especially when you have multiple other children who could do it just fine.

Oh my... Mine hasn't reached this level yet. Hopefully you had a better wedding without her (even if it's sad). I think your grandma will regret it one day. Grandpa are the best =)
