Today, I jokingly asked my boyfriend to marry me, because it's a leap year. He is now avoiding me for fear that I was serious. FML

So... Is that a no, then?

That would be awesome to only have to remember your anniversary every 4 years

Can't he take a joke?

Sorry, I ment like its not that good of a Joke but he should still be able to get over it!

It's leap day not April fools day, besides, that's a stupid joke..

Why is it a joke to marry on a leap year? Shoulda waited for April fools day.

If he didn't think it was funny today, he'll probably start avoiding you more and more. Evidently, you're the girl he'll, er, "be with", until something better comes along.

Damn you shouldn't joke like that!

I'm pretty sure OP was hinting at wanting to get married. If not, then the joke could have easily turned into something serious. People these days are way to sensitive. Also, if a couple is close, then joking this minor should be acceptable.

It's something they do over in Europe, I believe in Ireland.

That man is so scared of commitment he probably doesn't even buy green bananas.

... Everyone's making so much comments but the biggest factor here is missing, how long have you been together? There's a hell of a difference between a couple of months, three years and six years when it comes to a marriage commitment.

Exactly. If they haven't been together for very long you can't possibly expect a positive reaction.

He'll get over it, just explain it was a joke. It would be cute to get married on leap year, it's considered good luck and it would help out the spouse who forgets anniversaries, they only have to remember it every four years.
