Today, I heard an electric saw cutting through something outside my condo. I presumed it was a complex maintenance guy working on something. It was a thief using an angle grinder to cut off my bicycle's U-lock. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
The long arm of the law
Today, someone had put a lock on my bike. While I was trying to saw it off, the police drove by. I was arrested for trying to steal a bike and released four hours later when they figured out that it was actually my bike. FML
Today, I rode my newly-purchased bicycle to Lowe's to look at flooring and back splashes for our upcoming remodel. Upon leaving the store, I found out that my bicycle had been stolen by someone who had bought a hacksaw from that store while I was shopping. They left the receipt to mock me. FML
Today, I decided to bike to work. I normally forget the key to my lock, so I leave it out back and hope that nobody takes it, and nobody does. I finally remembered my lock key so I chained it up. After my 7 hour shift, I walk to the back only to find the lock had been cut, and my bike was gone. FML
Today, I came home from work to find the lock to my bike busted and my bike stolen. The worst part was a nicer bike was sitting right next to it without a lock. FML
Today, I rode my bike to the store because I only had a few things to pick up. When I walked back out after five minutes, my bike was stolen. I had gone to the store to buy a new bike lock. FML
BIKES!
Today, I lost the key to my bike lock. I ended up having to cut it off, even though it was brand new. After spending 30 minutes hacking away at it, it finally came off. When I hopped onto my bike, I felt something poking my leg. My key was in my pocket the whole time. FML
Today, I walked out of my college dorm to see that the intelligent person who locked their bike next to mine decided as an added security they would lock their bike to the rack, and to my bike. FML
Frustration level 100
Today, I saw my bike locked outside a Starbucks down the street from my house. It was stolen about 10 days ago from my communal laundry room. There was even a cop parked across the street, but I have no proof to show that bike even belonged to me. FML
Arrest them!

BIKES!
Today, my bike was stolen. These things happen, so I went to work. On my walk to work, a girl pulls up on my bike and says I needed to fix the brakes, someone could kill themselves. She hands the bike to me and runs off. Not even 3 minutes pass before police surrounded me and accused me of stealing my own bike. FML

Your must have a pretty sweet bike he's putting in that much effort. Hope you were able to stop him.

People can be such assholes. I hope you went out there and kicked his ass, or better yet, shot him.

as someone who's put a lot of time and money into my bike, you have my simpathies. It really sucks that people don't tend to do shit about bike theft even if they see it in progress.

1) How would you know it was an angle grinder (if they left it how stupid can they be?) 2) I did not know an angle grinder could be used as a saw, guess you learn something new every day

Dude, seriously, keep your bike inside. Bikes kept outside ALWAYS get stolen.

Not if you purposefully buy a bike that looks crappy. It's the nice ones that get stolen.

How complex was this maintenance guy you thought you heard? ("Complex-maintenance guy" is what you wanted to type, Anon.)

Ahh this happened to me once. I was asleep on my couch and heard a lot of metal clanking coming from our bike rack. Next time I went down there, my bike was gone.

That sucks. I live in a bad neighborhood so I always bring my bike inside. Guess you'll be doing that from now on?

Do you live in Montreal? Seems to be bike theft capital! That really blows - I hope you managed to stop him or called the police or something!
