Today, I rode my newly-purchased bicycle to Lowe's to look at flooring and back splashes for our upcoming remodel. Upon leaving the store, I found out that my bicycle had been stolen by someone who had bought a hacksaw from that store while I was shopping. They left the receipt to mock me. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I rode my bike to the store because I only had a few things to pick up. When I walked back out after five minutes, my bike was stolen. I had gone to the store to buy a new bike lock. FML
Today, I biked to the store to buy a new lock, since biking is my only form of transportation. I left my bike unattended for the last time, only to come back with a new chain, but no bike. FML
Good deed, but still…
Today, I was at Goodwill and I saw my bike, which was stolen from me a couple of weeks ago. It was a gift that my mom gave me for my birthday. The bike was being sold for 65 dollars. I had to buy it. FML
Today, I finally received the bicycle I ordered months ago. It was an expensive custom-made bike which perfectly fit my 6'9" frame. Today, that bike got stolen. FML
Today, I bought a new bike from a sporting goods store. I secured the bike in the back seat and slammed the door shut, but I didn't pay close enough attention to the placement of the handlebars. I had to return the bike to pay for the shattered window. FML
Today, I came home from work to find the lock to my bike busted and my bike stolen. The worst part was a nicer bike was sitting right next to it without a lock. FML
Today, I heard an electric saw cutting through something outside my condo. I presumed it was a complex maintenance guy working on something. It was a thief using an angle grinder to cut off my bicycle's U-lock. FML
BIKES!
Today, I discovered a purple BMX bike abandoned in my front yard. I wondered why it was there, until I looked over to discover that my own bike had been stolen. I guess they liked mine better. FML
Today, I decided to bike to work. I normally forget the key to my lock, so I leave it out back and hope that nobody takes it, and nobody does. I finally remembered my lock key so I chained it up. After my 7 hour shift, I walk to the back only to find the lock had been cut, and my bike was gone. FML
Today, my bike got stolen because I left my keys in the lock. On my way home, I saw my bike in front of a store, unlocked. I jumped on it, only to get punched in the face by the guy that had taken it, and got it stolen from me again. FML

he's an idiot. The receipts have time stamps. Talk to the staff, identify who bought a hacksaw around that time and done

Did they pay with card? That can be used to find them.

No it cant, companies are not allowed by law to keep card numbers

That's horrible, innovative but horrible. I'm sure Lowes has cameras that could help as well as cashiers who remember who bought a hacksaw during that time.

Inside cameras that face the registers!!!

Not only that, every single Home depot is going to have Camera's watching the registers. Shit even if he hadn't left the receipt, just knowing he bought a Hacksaw there would make it pretty easy to track down. The problem arises from the fact that police don't really go after petty thieves unless they steal from businesses.

As others have said, timestamp on the receipt and cameras in the store. File a police report!

I work at Lowes. Ask to speak with the manager or Loss Prevention. They have cameras and will be able to take still photos for you so you can give them to the cops. Funny enough I'm writing this comment while at work.

Technically you are still doing your job then.

I work at lowes too, for the corporate office, and I was thinking the exact same thing.

If lowes is anything like Walmart, they won't give you anything because it wasn't stolen from them and privacy laws won't protect you.

@19 OP parked the bike on their terrain and also locked it. They will need to support OP, and if they don't, he/she can go to the police. If they decide to investigate at the store, they'll be forced to help. :)

They can use the receipt to figure out who made the purchase, though you will also need to get the police involved.

Is there security cameras outside where the bike was parked? Call the cops and have them ask Lowes for the footage

The police should be able to do something with the time stamp of the cash register and the corresponding cctv footage.
