Today, I got roped into a volunteering thing at the last minute. I was waiting outside with all these kids who looked hungry. Feeling bad, I passed around crisps and cookies. Turns out we were at a convention to promote healthy eating in malnourished children. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste

Today, my friend and I taught a very involved healthy nutrition program to underprivileged youths at a local center. We even made them a healthy snack at the end of the program. Within minutes of the program being over, we caught some of our fellow volunteers feeding the kids Oreos. FML
Today, I'm participating in a 30 hour awareness-raising event on famine in Africa. I'm supposed to hand out leaflets to people from my booth. My school decided to hand out a literal crate-load of free cupcakes right in front of us. FML
You little…
Today, I volunteered to cater an event at school. A little girl asked for a big slice of cake so I gave it to her. She then puked everywhere and her parents blamed me and made me clean it up. The little girl sat there smiling at me while I cleaned. FML
Swings and roundabouts
Today, I went to a community center event to make friends in a new city. I introduced myself to someone who seemed cool, then realized they were the event organizer who thought I was a volunteer who hadn’t shown up for their shift. They politely asked me to help stack chairs. I spent the night stacking chairs instead of meeting people. Now I’m on the volunteer email list. FML
Today, I was going to volunteer at a soup kitchen. I saw a man working, so I went up to him to ask where I should sign in. Before I even opened my mouth, he told me that they opened at 12 and to come back then for my meal. FML
I tried
Today, after spending two hours baking cookies for my niece's school's fundraiser, I packed them into a container and drove to the school. When I got there, the teacher looked confused and said the fundraiser was next Saturday. By the time the actual date arrived, every cookie had been eaten by my family. FML
Today, I was volunteering at a local hospital. I was eagerly introducing myself to all the nurses, as I would be working with them all summer. It wasn't until I got home that I discovered the giant piece of lettuce stuck in my front teeth. So much for first impressions. FML
Hangry
Today, I stopped at a mini-mart and bought a family-size bag of potato chips, a tub of dip, a box of toaster pastries, and some snack cakes. The guy at the counter said, "Wow, someone's hungry!" I told him it wasn't all for me, paid, and left in a huff. It was all for me. I ate it all by that evening. FML
Merry Xmas
Today, a friend had invited me to Christmas dinner since I have no family close by. When I got there, she told me that her and her husband had forgotten they had another dinner to go to, and asked if I would watch their kids for them. They each grabbed a handful of cookies I had baked and rushed out the door. FML
Today, I was working at a soup kitchen with people from my church. Seeing a rather disheveled couple, I told them the line started "over there". Only then did I realize that they were from my church, and were there to help serve soup. FML

Cookies are only healthy for the soul.

My question is, if kids are malnourished, they probably can't afford food. How are they going to pay for food that is more "healthy" when it is more expensive than junk food?

if they wanted to promote eating healthy then why are cookies there in the first place

32: Malnourished doesn't always mean poor children. There are many people in the US who are malnourished just because they don't take in the right amount of vitamins or nutrients.

That obviously sucked just like #2's joke!

It didn't suck as bad as your comment though.

Now kids these kind of food are the ones you should definitely avoid.

At least you were trying to help!

Well the good intentions were there at least. I mean, everyone loves free food right?

They didn't even tell you what you're volunteering for?

1. Make sure you know what you are volunteering for. 2. I am sure starving kids were excited to get some sweets. I know they should be healthy, but sometimes you have to give in and enjoy some sweet things.

If you are "roped into" volunteering, it isn't volunteering.

lol yes it is what the hell.

And you can teach them to enjoy junk food in moderation!!

If the children are malnourished, wouldn't giving them high calorie food be a good thing? Because, you know, calories aren't bad, it's just that too many is bad, and if you're malnourished, it's because you're not getting enough calories.

I think you might be mixing malnourishment and undernourishment up. They are not necessarily the same thing; malnourishment mostly means improper diet.
gracehi 33
Oh really? Because I've never heard an obese person described as malnourished. That just sounds odd to me.
kirasen 27
It's possibly a lesser used term, and a malnourished person need not be under or overweight, just getting the wrong balance of nutrients.
SideOfTheAngels 23
Malnourishment is the lack of a satisfactory amount of vitamins/minerals/nutrient. You can be morbidly obese, but I you're only eating junk or take away you're not going to be meeting the requirements for nutrients and things, and thus be considered "malnourished".
