Today, I got all dressed up for a New Year's party. When my parents and siblings left the house to their parties, I got undressed. I wasn't going to a party. I only got dressed up so my family would think I had plans. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got all dressed up, in high heels and a sparkly dress, to sit in the library for most of the night so that my roommate and his friends would believe that I have a social life. FML
Today, I came home from a New Year's party wearing a shower curtain and nothing else. FML
Happy new year
Today, I hosted a New Year’s Eve party, but everyone left at 11:45 PM to go to another party because "it sounded more fun." I rang in the new year alone. FML
Today, my parents went out of town and I was home all alone. I put up party decorations such as streamers, balloons and confetti. Then, I drank out of red cups, crushed them up and put them all over the house. I didn't have a party, I just wanted to convince my family that I'm not a loser. FML
It's a Christmas… Anticlimax
Today, I got dressed up in my best attire and drove an hour to my family Christmas, only to find out it was canceled, and nobody bothered to tell me. FML
So lonely
Today, I got dressed, did my hair, carefully applied my makeup, sprayed myself with perfume, grabbed my bag and put on my coat. I got to the door, and then realised that I had nowhere to go, nothing to do and none of my friends were answering my calls. FML
Today, I told my mom I was going to a New Year's party. She told me to be back by midnight. FML
Today, I got married. My sister and father could not attend because they already had plans. My sister went to the mall with her friends, and my dad went to a pool party. FML
Self report
Today, I thought I had gotten away with throwing a party while my folks were gone the night before. They came home and I was as sweet as possible. I could tell they were not buying it, but I thought I was in the clear. Later, they told me I had drunk-dialled them and spilled the beans. FML
Procrastinating my life away
Today, I tried to be productive and got dressed in real clothes instead of sweatpants. I spent the next four hours on the couch binge-watching Netflix and pretending I had plans. FML

Contrary to a lot of posts here you are not a loser! You would be so surprised to know how many people did not have plans for New Years! My gorgeous teen wasn't "invited" anywhere and a friend wanted to come over, last minute, and my teen laughed and said "stop pretending, you didn't have anywhere to go either! You're a "loser" just like me!" and they both laughed and they had a great time staying home. They are definitely not losers! My other child who did get invites and didn't want to go because it was much more pleasant at home than to go to some party just because it was New Years Eve. If you, on the other hand DID want to go somewhere because it was New Years Eve, make it a point next year to find an event in your area and go to it. Invite anyone! You will still feel you are being in the moment. If you have no friends, make your hugest effort this year to connect with just one person. That is all you need. Join a club, volunteer, take a class, or go to places like MeetUp.com and try only safe, large groups that meet in public places. Happy New Year and I hope this year brings all the best to you!

I totally agree with Saturday123. Forget the stereotypical "You should be partying on New Year's." Yes, parties are fun, but it's in no way a requirement to make you feel cool or ashamed if you don't go to one. Besides, New Year's always feels so anti-climatic (at least to me)- you count it down, shout "Happy New Year!," maybe kiss and that's it. I went to my friend's house for New Year's who had a group of our friends over and we just played board games, fired up the grill and had a few beers and had an enjoyable evening. Next year, either make plans with your siblings/parents, or invite a girlfriend over and watch some movies. You're not a loser, OP =)

No, she really is a loser. Parties are not a proof that you are cool at all, so if you were not going to any, you shouldn't be ashamed. But lying to make everyone think you are cool is one of the best descriptions of a loser that comes to my mind. If you are happy with your life, don't listen to what other people say. If not, do something about it and stop whining.

Hey, it's a new year now - maybe you can make some changes in your life and meet some new people so that next new years eve you won't have to lie about parties. P.S. I hope you did have fun by yourself instead of moping around all evening.

There is nothing to be ashamed of. Why didnt you just go with one of your siblings?

Has it occured to ANYONE that maybe the OP _didn't_want_ to go to a party, and just pretended so that the conventional family would stop harping on them and annoying them to "be social" and "fit in" like many families often do? Some of us dislike the company of other people and have more fun by ourselves. Why should we fake to be someone else and go to pointless parties just to "fit in"? Isn't that a much bigger lie than making it seem like you're going out (so that people won't annoy you) and then staying home and having fun? How do you know which case the OP fits in? We have no way to know whether they truly wanted to go or not.

I think #42 makes a good point. So, OP FYL if you had to pretend that you were going somewhere just so that your family would leave you the hell alone. But, YDI if you wanted to go somewhere, got dressed up, and then didn't bother to go somewhere. There's always somewhere to go last minute on New Years, if you want to.

You got undressed? Well now you can party at home naked and no one will judge you.
Anne553 0
you shouldn't pretend like that! You need to come out honestly and say "I have nowhere to go" and I bet one of your parents or sibblings would be happy to take you along to their party. If you keep pretending to be happy, you're just going to get more and more depressed. Open up more, you can trust you family =)
