Today, I got a blue screen of death on my brand new computer. Why? My parents installed an "anti-virus" before I got home. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my mom borrowed my computer without my permission and downloaded a virus. I came home to a blue screen of death. She refuses to admit fault and pay for a new computer. FML
Today, I let my mother use my computer for school work. Later that day my mom asks me what's wrong with the computer. I look at it, only seeing a "Welcome to Windows XP" screen. She said that she saw a blue screen and pressed L and C when it asked her to. My mom managed to clear my hard drive. FML
Today, my mom thought it would be a good idea to see what websites I go on from my computer while I wasn't home. She clicked the link that gave my computer a virus that I just got rid of a few days ago. FML
Today, I got a computer. When I opened it, I found out that my dad had made himself the administrator. He made it so everything shut off after 11 o'clock, and made it so I couldn't download anything without his password. FML
Today, I realized that my virus protection program now has a virus. FML
What have you done now?
Today, my dad was sat on my laptop in the living room trying to learn how to do some rewiring around the house when he, and I quote, ”clicked on the thing.” My laptop is now riddled with so many viruses it’s basically a house brick. FML
Today, I managed to infect a clean computer with a virus while looking up info on how to rid my other computer of the same virus. FML
Today, my computer was hit by something bigger than a virus: a car. FML
Mr. Robot
Today, our computer system has irretrievably broken down due to viruses. My boss is the one who refused to get new antivirus software, but he’s still blaming me because I’m the computer guy and should be able to protect us from stupidly complicated viruses, "like the hackers in the movies." FML
Check this out
Today, I got two viruses on my laptop. One was a fake anti-spyware program that cluttered the screen with pop-ups. The other opened the browser repeatedly, each time to a generic porn site. This all conveniently happened at work, on a projector and during a meeting. FML

This is why I only have my account on my computer, locked with a password. The only other people I let use it are the IT certified members of my family.

Did they also install a bunch of toolbars?

This would be why you immediately lock down admin privileges. Hoping they cover the cost of getting that fixed!

Nope, an anti-virus program will not cause a blue screen of death. You mean they installed what they thought was an anti-virus but even so, it is a brand new computer and a factory restore will take care of it! This is not an FML.

I still flash backs on working those nightmare computers. A person somehow installed 3 antivirus programs on their computer. When you have a working comp again, ensure those two have non-admin profiles and keep your profile password protected. No matter how much they whine about it.

A brand new computer means you probably with lose much, if anything, by resetting it. This time put a password on it.

BSOD isn't the end of the world, plus it could just be coincidental. Seems presumptuous to blame one piece of software when the majority of the time it is hardware/driver related. Do you even know what the STOP error was?

I agree with the password coments and the factory reset. Your parents were fooled by one of those scams that take your money ans deliver junk. Everyone stay with brand name software and flash drivrs. When in dought google the name of the software or check cnet.com for reviews.
