Today, I found out why my District Manager won't promote me to store manager; his wife thinks he's having an affair with me. If he promotes me, she will take that as evidence of the affair, and then will threaten to divorce him. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Office politics
Today, I was turned down for a promotion because of complaints on my file. I’d never heard of them, so I demanded to see them. Every complaint was filed in the last six months and signed by either him or the other manager who doesn’t like me. Guess who got promoted instead? His “secret” side chick. FML
Scapegoat blues
Today, my lazy manager, who blatantly spreads vicious rumors about employees, one which has ruined a marriage, has started targeting me because her lazy daughter was legally fired. Now I'm known around the office as "the whore who slept her way up the corporate ladder." FML
Black balled
Today, my wife somehow found out that my "surprise bonus" from earlier this year was actually hush money from my boss to keep quiet about her affair. Rather than let a good thing alone, she threw a fit and called my boss's husband. Now I'm jobless, and my boss has sworn I'll never work in my industry again. FML
Not a good look
Today, my coworker and I agreed to come clean and tell our fellow employees that we have been secretly dating for a while. Before we could, I received a promotion. I'm now his boss. FML
Today, I was fired from my job. Why? Because my boss has been dating my newly divorced mother, and he didn't want family get-togethers to be "awkward." FML
Today, I confronted my boss to find out why I was denied a promotion that she promised to me. Her response? "You should know by now I'm a liar. Not my fault if you believe the things I say." FML
Today, my boss made up a rumor that I was quitting my job so I wouldn't get the promotion that was coming up. There goes that raise I've been wanting for six months. FML
Today, I was fired from a managerial position I've held for two years due to "inappropriate relations with a subordinate": I was dating a coworker. My girlfriend then broke up with me four hours later. Because I no longer had a job. I hired her. FML
Management
Today, I had an hour-long meeting with my manager where she informed me the reason I had not been promoted is because she felt that people would not like to work for me, because I would, "make them do their job." FML
Today, I found out that my wife has been having an affair with the guy who's been trying to get our relationship back on track. FML

Well in that case I would sit both of them down and advise them that their behavior is completely unacceptable for the workplace and that they need to leave their personal lives at home. If such is impossible then it would be advisable that one of them find employment elsewhere because in the end their squabbling is going to hurt the business. The fact that they have problems in their marriage should not mean that everyone else has to be involved in their problems. If you need him but not her then it is obvious who would go. They are grown adults and there is zero reason to excuse their behavior if it is causing disruption at work. They need to be more mature than that.

Well, I do know of a dm and a gm who had an affair. They both left their families for each other, so it does happen (of course) but I would be on the phone with HR so fast after hearing that.

Ari Gold had this exact problem. I suggest moving on. You, to him, are less important than his wife.

Shouldn't the employee be less important to the guy then the wife? He shouldn't let his wife control his work decisions though, it's definitely not her place...but is it really shocking that he would choose his wife over giving someone a promotion when he could hire anyone for the job? Him telling the OP the truth allows her to decide if she wants to leave for better opportunities or stay where she is. He could have just hired someone else and said nothing...which I think most people in that situation would do...it's not like he HAS to promote from within the store.
