Today, I found out that I will be spending my spring break alone because my family is going to France. I can't go with them nor go with any of my friends because I have to take care of the cat. FML

Today, I was left at home alone while my friends went on a trip to Paris I paid for. FML
Today, my mom told me the night before our school trip that I’m not going so she could get a refund. Now I have to stay alone with my mom for a week, while my friends are having the time of their life in NYC. FML
Today, I found out that I get to spend the next two weeks at my grandparents' house, which smells like cat litter, while the rest of my family takes a cruise through the Caribbean. They can't afford to take a ninth person. FML
Today, I found out that ALL of my friends were in the same class and I was in a different one. They went away on camp, and I'm going to be alone for this whole week. FML
Today, I am passing New Year's Eve alone with my cat because everybody around me decided to celebrate in close committee, had a family emergency, or caught the C plague. FML
Today, my boyfriend is packing up his apartment and my parents have gone to a seminar, but I can’t complain about being lonely during the Easter holidays. I'm being kept company by a hundred industrious ants, a very loud cat, and an enthusiastic Aunt Flo. FML
Today, I live in dorms and found out everyone is leaving for Christmas break. I also found out my student loan didn't go through, so now I cant afford to go visit my family that lives over 7 hours away. I guess I'll be spending Christmas alone in a dorm room. FML
Today, I found out my mom booked me a flight to stay with relatives who I don't like, and who don't like me. I leave in two days, and don't return until the day before school starts. FML
Today, I had to cancel all of the plans to go away on a romantic weekend with my boyfriend. My parents are going out of town for a night and I have to stay home a babysit my little sister. She's 19. FML
Today, after weeks of looking forward to my birthday trip to the beach, I've come down with a serious case of the flu. My family is still going without me, but at least now they don't have to pay someone to watch the dog. Happy birthday to me. FML

So- suck it up and stay with your cat OOOR pay small fee to one of your friends who you trust to babysit the cat while you go on vacation- problem solved- now stop wasting our time

The family is effed up for sure (unless OP leaves out some "unimportant" details). But kill/dispose of the cat? Too many answers above like this. What if it was a dog? Still the same? I guess not. Cats are not disposable, but they do find their way around without humans much easier than dogs. So why not cattery, or leaving it with someone who would take care of it? But perhaps your family doesn't enjoy your presence for some reason...

Your family sounds like a bunch of morons. Leaving ONE person to care for an animal? AND if this is one of thouse "But Mr.Mittons is part of the FAMILY" Things, then they should TAKE him. Is the CAT more important than YOU?
