Today, as I rung up a customer's groceries, he gave me a pitying look and said I'd have a "real job" if I'd only studied harder. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Red state
Today, a customer at the fast-food joint I work at gave me a pitying look and asked, "How's that liberal arts degree treating ya?" FML
Today, I'm a cashier in a grocery store. The visiting regional manager tore me a new one for being lazy. His reason? After working a double shift with no break, I decided to sit down for a minute when things got slow. FML
Ungrateful
Today, a customer called me a "smart ass" because I helped him scan his coupon correctly. FML
Today, at the store, I didn't hear the cashier when she asked if I had a loyalty card. She took one look at my naturally bitchy-looking face and muttered "It's my JOB to ask, jeez." FML
Today, a customer berated me and told me to stop whining because I have to work on the weekend. What did I do to deserve this? I said, "Hi, how are you doing today?" FML
Today, a jobless person felt sympathy for me because I work retail. FML
Desperate times
Today, desperate for work, I went into a shop and asked the owner if he had any spare jobs to fill. He looked me up and down and sneered, "Yes, but not for people like... you." FML
Today, at work, I took a call from an angry customer. After listening to his problem and fully explaining how we could fix it, he called me a stupid girl and said I need more training as I obviously know nothing about my job. I'm the company training coordinator. FML
Today, a customer gave me the dirtiest look ever and muttered, "Goody two-shoes prick" after I asked if he'd like to donate a few cents to charity. FML
Today, I got the best grade in class on my economics midterm. Rather than tell me I did a good job, my professor criticized me in front of everyone about how I was working "too hard". FML

We need people for all kinds of jobs, even the ones that require no special education. Judging peoples value based on their job is such bs.

Don't worry OP, it's not too late. It was wrong of him to assume you didn't try anyhow.

Who says its "too late"? My mom has TWO college degrees in accounting and something in business and works at a gas station and factory. Just because you have education and a degree doesn't mean you get a job in it. And even then, who's going to work the jobs people think they are too good for?

Lol, I remember whenever I was a grocery store cashier that if someone said something demeaning to me, I'd not be gentle with their bread.

Give him a peg.

Then make sure you're polite I guess.

That'd only affirm the customer's belief that OP is incompetent.

I know! Comments like that always annoy me, because although not all jobs are considered "cool" or "good", we need all those different jobs to be able to have the society that we do! Some people are just so completely ignorant. Don't feel bad, OP, I think your job is very real - and very necessary.

I hate the term "real job". I'm a server and I get that from time to time. I pay real taxes, make real money, which pays real bills. How is that not a "real job"?

Give it a decade or two, then we'll have robots doing most jobs and they won't care about being insulted.

At work? Yeah, okay, let's see how that works out. As another customer, yeah, okay, do it.

You know, I'm trying to see things from his point of view but I find it quite difficult to shove my head that far up my ass.

Working at a grocery store is one of the best jobs with GREAT overtime & benefits!! He just doesn't know...sorry OP that sucks!! I think your job is GREAT!!!! : )
meli1195 31
well I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the BEST job, sometimes it sucks. but everyone starts somewhere and OP could be like the thousands of other people who go to college and have a job at the same time. just because you're in a job like that doesn't make you any less than people with "real" job.

What a condescending idiot ! Good on you to keep your composure. I hope you didn't feel the need to reply, cause sometimes silence is the best response to a fool like that as you don't need their validation whatsoever, they don't know you or your situation. Keep your head up OP
