Today, I found out my girlfriend starts fights with me over text because apparently, when I'm arguing with someone, I stop speaking in "annoying shorthand" and am grammatically correct. FML

Today, my girlfriend berated me for my "lack of communication skills", all while deeply engrossed with something on her phone. FML
Today, my girlfriend confronted me for forgetting to take the trash out. At some point during the argument, I tried to calm her down, and the words "I should of" escaped my lips. She spent the next ten minutes calling me stupid and laughing at how my grammar goes to hell when I'm distressed. FML
Today, my caring way too much about proper grammar got out of hand when I corrected my girlfriend during a talk about her dying grandmother. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I agreed to weekly talks about anything that is bothering us, since we’ve been arguing a lot lately. So far, every talk has been her moaning at me about how I annoy her, yet when I try to have my say, she interrupts or yells at me for blaming her for our problems. FML
Today, my girlfriend has yelled at me multiple times for saying sorry too much. It's involuntary, due to me constantly being told I never do anything right growing up by my parents. She knows this, and is even then one who helped me realize this, and still yells at me for it. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I had an argument. She admitted she didn't know why she was pissed at me, but still is, and now she won't talk to me. FML
Today, I noticed that my girlfriend only texts me when she needs help with her homework. FML
Today, I had a massive argument with my boyfriend, in which he called me stupid repeatedly. I stomped out of his house and sent a very angry text to my best friend about him. She didn't text back. Then my boyfriend texted, "My girlfriend is so stupid, she can't even text the right number." FML
Today, my girlfriend snapped at me for being lazy and incompetent, and declared that if I was going to behave like a child, she would be treating me like one. This includes safety-proofing the house, talking to me like a 3-year-old and slapping me with a wooden spoon when I do something wrong. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I were arguing. I told her that "same" and "similar" were two different words that meant two different things. She said, "I don't know about that, let me research it." This is the level of, "I always need to be right" that I deal with every day. I need to end things, for both of our sakes. FML

She is correct. Most phones these days have a full qwerty keyboard, predictive text and auto correct. It drives me nuts when my family members use shorthand when texting or chatting on Facebook. I know all of them use smartphones, so there is no excuse for using shorthand, its just laziness. Another thing that I hate is when people write without using any kind of punctuation at all and they write extremely long sentences like this would it kill you to insert a damn comma in there somwhere if your going to be typing a full blown novel of a text message?

Yes, your are correct, I'm guilty of the "your" and "you're" mistakes myself. Also "its" and "it's". But I don't bitch about those mistakes, we all make them. But that was not my point, I was talking about the use of shorthand, and VERY basic punctuation. I'm not a grammar Nazi, I don't point out the mistakes in texts that are sent to me, because I make them too.

Why do we care? Because I have seen people write in shorthand when they should NOT be using it. I didn't know what to say when a person in my project group (in college) asked if it would be ok to use shorthand in her project notes, because it would supposedly take less time to type. Lack of using full words gives people the impression that you are lazy, or that your brain is stuck in the 9th grade.
