Today, I found out my coworker was arrested for beating the crap out of his wife. I gave him a serious pep talk yesterday where I told him to stop taking her shit and start standing up for himself. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Public freakout
Today, a customer at work became violent and started hitting me and my coworker. Not wanting him to get the shit beat out of us, I used a move that pinned the guy on the ground. The police came and he was arrested. I was then fired for assaulting a customer. FML
Anger issues much?
Today, my coworker got angry at a mean customer. She came to the back where I work and started punching the wall repeatedly. When I tried to intervene and stop her from breaking her hand, she punched me in the stomach and uppercut me. FML
Unfortunate coincidences
Today, I finally stood up for myself and beat the crap out of a bully at school, as my father told me to do. The kid and I were called to the principal's office, along with our parents. Inside my father's smirk faded when he saw that the kid's mom was his boss. FML
Today, I was beating the hell out of one of the most useless employees ever. I mean really laying into him, all while telling him for the umpteenth time how to do his job right. Then my husband informed me I was hitting him in my sleep. FML
Today, I heard screaming coming from my neighbor's house. Since her husband has a history of abusing her, I called the cops. After they left with him in custody, she called to yell at me because they were "working things out" after "having a few drinks". FML
Thanks bossman
Today, I finally decided to stand up for myself and quit my crappy job working for my abusive father. I gave him a few insults too, to which he reacted by calling the police and claiming I'd threatened to murder him. I spent three hours in jail before they finally let me go. FML
Emergency
Today, I called into work because of a family emergency. My boss was understanding; my coworker? He tore me a new one because his wife wanted him to take the day off, which he didn't because it was going to be a tough day at work. He also threatened to find a way he could get me fired. FML
Listen up
Today, after years of listening to my coworker complaining about everything in her life, including her job, I finally stood up to her and bitched at her for complaining and not doing anything about it. She went to my boss, and now it's in my job description to listen to her when she complains. FML
Today, I punched a drunk woman who kept trying to force herself onto my husband. She turned out to be an off-duty cop. FML
Today, a huge and angry man stormed into my work and threatened to kill me if I didn't stop sleeping with his wife. He then threatened to come back and kick my ass if I so much as texted his wife again. The problem is, I'm married, have never cheated and I work for my wife's father. FML

Sorry OP, how could you have known that he would take your advice to such an extreme? Hopefully she's alright

You told him to stop taking her shit; not to start giving shit of his own.Hopefully he's learnt the difference between the two.

It's not your fault he was a psycho, you weren't to know.

He's the one that took that to mean beat her up. Obviously he had that mindset anyway. Not your fault but I wouldn't even associate with that guy anymore.

Well I sure hope you didn't mean for him to beat up his wife by telling him to stand up for himself.

Not saying anybody is right here but let's think about this...... It sounds like that maybe the shit the husband was taking was physical or psychological abuse from the wife to go to that extreme...... Let's reverse the scenario here if it was a female coworker who did the same thing. This comment section would look quite different.

Except that people have already acknowledged that the wife could have been abusive and that he could have been defending himself but took it too far. It seems more likely than most of the commenters would be saying what they said here were the gender roles reversed- sucks it happened but but the person still "beat the shit" out of their spouse, which is pretty damn hard to make it sound like they did the right thing. It depends on the laws where OP and the spouses live, but where I live, both spouses would be facing charges of domestic violence if it couldn't be decisively be determined who began the abuse cycle. The husband would also be facing battery charges, while the wife could also face either assault charges if she was emotionally and mentally abusive, battery charges if she was physically abusive, or both. In other places, the husband would be under the charges for being less injured. Back to the point, most of the people on here seem to have a decent grasp of equality and would be equally horrified if the OP's coworker had been a woman who attacked her partner.

Chances are you had nothing to do with it, OP. Abusers are exceedingly good at getting other people's sympathy, and painting their victims as crazy, unreasonable, unbearable etc. Abusers (of any gender) also often deflect suspicion by claiming that they are actually the victim. You couldn't know.

If there's one thing I know, it's that there are two sides to every story. Stay out of people's marriages.

standing up for himself doesn't mean beating her. it's not your fault
