Today, I was in a video call with my boss when my Wi-Fi decided to take a vacation. I thought I could salvage the situation by using my iPhone’s hotspot. But then my phone ran out of data mid-sentence, and my boss got a glimpse of me cursing at my phone while frantically waving it in the air. FML

At least it was used on someone that matters and not on something you'd be kicking yourself over for a while. I'm sure your girlfriend appreciates it, even if your wallet won't! :P

This is why I only skype on my laptop :p Try to see if your phone can disable data from working on certain apps. I know iPhones do.

Mobile data is almost always severely limited, with no options for unlimited, or very expensive prices for a higher limit.

i watch hours of youtube no problem, only have 2.5gb of data. just set it to 240p and it still looks ok

I'm afraid to use my school's WiFi because it can't stay connected for more than 10 minutes on my phone so I feel like this is something that could easily happen to me too. FYL

Switch your mobile data off when you're in school. So if the wifi accidentally disconnects you won't use data by mistake. :)

Depending on the brand of your phone/tablet, you may be able to disable cellular data for Skype in your settings, to prevent this happening again.

Did you try to use free Wifi instead of your plan OP? I'm not sure how that works so I'm guessing.

I've been there, OP!!!!! It totally does suck!!!!! I've accidentally used data for hours on end because I didn't check my WiFi connection like a dumbass!!!! Best of luck OP!

Skype only uses 2 gigs and hour when I use data with it.... but then. I have a 20gb plan

This is why my boyfriend and I use FaceTime voice calls. They use roughly a megabyte a minute. I have 100GB on my wifi plan but he only has 15 so video calls are too data-hungry, especially when we've spent up to 7 hours a day talking.
