Today, I embarrassed myself by screaming for help in a crowded mall when my shoelace got stuck at the top of the escalator. Someone behind me kicked the shoelace and it came out easily. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Keep moving
Today, as I was stood on an escalator, my shoelace got caught in the step. Panicking, I tried to pull it out, but my shoe came off. I had to awkwardly hop back down the escalator to retrieve it while everyone around me in the mall watched. FML
Today, I was at the mall with my mom. She was pissing me off, so I started screaming at her and causing a scene. I ended up falling all the way down the up escalator. Everyone saw and people clapped. FML
Today, I was riding up an escalator in the mall in uncomfortable high heels. While adjusting my bag I suddenly lost my balance and began flailing wildly. In desperation I hurled forward and ended up grabbing a teenage boy's buttocks and was promptly slapped by his girlfriend. FML
It's a trap!
Today, I tried on a tight sweater at the mall. It got stuck halfway over my head, and I couldn’t get it off. I had to shuffle out of the changing room, arms trapped in the air, and ask the clerk for help while blinded by the fabric. FML
Today, I was spending some time alone out in the countryside, when I glanced at my boot. I saw a snake, screamed, ran like hell for my car, tripped over my own feet, and smashed my kneecaps. Upon further inspection, I realized the "snake" was my loose shoelace. FML
Today, I knocked over a display case at a mall, shattering hundreds of dollars in goods. Embarrassed, I tried to scurry out of the nearest door without being seen. I scuttled right into the janitor's closet, the door automatically locking behind me. I waited for an hour to be let out. FML
Today, while at the mall, a kid no older than 5 pushed a stroller into my heel, which caught the back of my shoe and caused me to face-plant the floor in the middle of a very crowded department store. I didn't even get an apology. FML
Today, while at the mall, I was traveling up the escalator on my way to the food court. When I neared the top, the handrail severely shocked me, causing me to drop a bag of China I had just bought, which fell to the bottom of the escalator and shattered. FML
Classic
Today, I was on the train to work. I was up late the night before, causing me to doze off. When I woke up, I was at my station. I stood up, went to walk out of the door and fell flat on my face on a platform full of people. Someone had tied my shoelaces together. FML
Thwack
Today, while entering in my college building, I noticed that my right shoelace was untied and I tied it. I didn't realize that just in front of me was a metal beam until I hit my head hard on it and a loud, reverberating sound was produced. Many people saw what happened. FML

Good thing it did come free, because if your foot got stuck in your shoe when the escalator tried to pull it under, it could have fractured or twisted something. Also, ignore the people making fun of you, they probably wouldn't handle the situation any better. They'd probably handle it worse, even.

Seems like someone should've tried before they cried!

The other person was at s different angle, waning they very well could have had an advantage for getting enough force to yank it free. What would you have OP do? Use the foot their standing on to try to kick the trapped foot loose? Because that isn't how physics work.

What are these things on the ends of my arms? There's 5 digits on each and being at the end of such long appendages, it's almost like they could be handy for grasping and pulling things. I might even be able to remove footwear quickly if I used them cprrectly. In fact, they're so handy that I'm going to call them hands.

Usually when a shoe lace is caught so badly as to be "mangled" the person attached is too busy either: trying to keep themself upright by holding onto something- especially when the shoe lace is being PULLED trying to pinwheel their arms to keep their balance. So it's almost like their hands were almost certainly occupied.

You did not embarrass yourself... accidents on escalators are more common than we imagine. You just should be more careful next time!

I don't blame you for screaming, OP. Just thinking of what could have happened sounds terrifying.
