Today, I discovered that most of my family is homophobic while discussing Orange Is The New Black. I've only come out to my sister. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
About that...
Today, my brother came out to our parents. They weren't super happy with it, but they said that it was ok since they still had a straight son. I don't know how to tell them that I'm gay too. FML
Assumptions…
Today, my sister gently asked me if I was gay. Turns out I've been without a boyfriend for so long that the whole family believes I secretly have a girlfriend. FML
Supportive
Today, my sister came out as lesbian and my parents kicked her out of the house. I was also kicked out for supporting her. FML
Today, a brief survey of everyone I know revealed that everyone, including my parents, sibling, and best friends, thinks I'm gay. I had to do the first reverse coming out in history. FML
Today, I came out to my therapist as gay. Claiming that my parents "can't be that homophobic", my therapist outed me to them. They kicked me out of the house. FML
Casual homophobia
Today, I came out to my parents and siblings as gay. They were very accepting and asked me why I waited until I was 25 to do so. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was their own homophobic remarks that kept me closeted since I realized it at 14, and that a previous coming-out to a parent was dismissed as 'a phase'. FML
Follow the lifescript
Today, I came out to my parents as lesbian. Surprisingly, they were OK with it… just as long as I still marry a dude, give them grandbabies, and keep the whole lesbian thing a deep, dark, shameful secret that we never talk about again. FML
Congratulations
Today, my step-sister told me that she was getting married to her girlfriend next summer. At a big family brunch, I made a toast to their marriage. I didn't know that my step-mom didn't know they were dating in the first place, or that she was severely homophobic. FML
Keeping up
Today, I found out that my mother has been telling everybody that I’m a lesbian, because both of her best friends have at least one gay child each, and she was feeling left out. This explains why people have been treating me differently the last few weeks. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me that he is homophobic. This wouldn't be such a big deal, if my mother wasn't a lesbian. He doesn't know this yet, and I'm afraid to tell him. FML

Don't waste years of your life putting on a mask for everyone else. Be who you are OP, and I wish you a happy life.

If there's a chance of you getting kicked out, I'd wait to come out to the rest of your family until you moved out and are financially stable.

It's your life not theirs so if they can't respect you for who you are than that's their problem. Hope everything works out for you OP

Bitch slap em into next Tuesday. Maybe that'll slap the stupid out of them, because sweetheart homophobic isn't a real thing and it's bullshit for you to have to be afraid of showing the real you around them. They're you're family and they should love you for you are, no matter what. I hope everything goes well, I really do. My cousins gay and his coming out was really hard, so to some extent I understand what you're going through. I'm really sorry. Good luck hun.

Why don't you try telling the victims of sexuality related hate-crimes that there's no such thing as homophobia.

Homophobia isn't a real thing? Go tell that to all the people who have been beaten up just because they are gay.

Having a younger sister that's lesbian, allow me to share this thought: they (your family) already know you're gay. You don't live under the same roof with someone & not know something like this ... unless you're a total idiot. Yes, your life sucks. The homophobic convo they displayed in front of you is their way of dysfunctionally dealing with your gay status & their displeasure. Either your family (minus your sister) is composed of idiots or they're rude beyond comprehension. Maybe both. Good ******* luck!!!

My parents never guessed I was queer. When I came out to them, they ripped me up and even said they'd see me in hell. If they do know OP is gay, then they're in more danger than I originally thought.

It's POSSIBLE and maybe even common that family knows, sometimes even before the person, but not every family. My mom didn't know, though luckily she is a very caring person. She never 'agreed' to it, though now she is learning and recognizing a lot of things. We can't see our cousin, though, because her father disowned her and told her never to come to family reunions or anything. If they knew, why would he kick her out then? Some really don't know.

My friend currently has the same predicament you should talk to her sometimes ?

I'm sorry you're in such a shitty situation, OP. I'm bisexual and I haven't come out to my family yet, and I don't plan on it either. Sometimes you have to sacrifice "being yourself" for safety and support. Luckily my friends know, and that's all I need. Whatever decision you make, there are people out there just like you, and in the same situations. You're not alone.
