Today, I called my dad, because I haven't spoken to him in a while, and I wanted to invite him to my graduation in May. When he picked up, I said, "Hey, how have you been, dad?" He scoffed, "Wrong number" and hung up the phone. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got a missed call from my dad, who hasn't talked to me in months and has vowed not to have anything to do with me. I called him back excitedly and apologized for missing his call, and we had a 20-second conversation about how his phone accidentally dialed my number. FML
Today, my father called me for the first time in two weeks since I moved away. Excited, I answered the phone. It was a mistake. He thought he'd called my sister. FML
Today, I received a call from the company I applied to, only to have my father pick it up and make fun of the man's accent. They won't call me back or take any of my calls, and my dad is completely unapologetic. FML
Today, my oldest son answered my phone call much to my surprise as we haven't spoken in a year. The first words out of his mouth were, "I didn't mean to pick up the phone." He then hung up. FML
Today, it's my 21st birthday. I got a call from my deadbeat dad, who I thought had finally mellowed and had something nice to say. Nope; he just told me I'm 21 years a disappointment, then hung up. FML
Today, my estranged father, with whom I haven't spoken in years, called me and demanded to know where his Father's Day gift was. FML
Today, I came home to find my dad drinking. Trying to be cheerful, I greeted him with a "Hi, dad!" He sighed, shook his head, and said "It hurts me when you call me that." FML
Today, my phone rang for the first time in four days. It was my mom. She dialed the wrong number. FML
My way or the highway
Today, whenever I call my father on the phone he never answers, but if I ever ignore his calls he wishes me dead. FML
Today, I called my dad to inform him I was coming home from college for the weekend. Expecting him to be excited, he responded with "why?" This weekend was my birthday. FML

Maybe it was the wrong number.

I hate to say it, but you're better off without him there. It's his loss, even if he's too stupid and/or ignorant to realize it.

I invited my dad to my graduation because i thought it was the right thing to do. On reflection, I still hate him and he didn't deserve the invite. He basically made out he was doing me a favour by turning up. I know it seems like having both your parents there would be the best thing but invite the people closest to you and have supported you up until the end of your education cause they're the people that matter!

#12 you worded the feeling of wisdom when it comes to such parents. However, wheb my mom passed away and I thought I'd wind up all alone, out of nowhere dad appeared and decided to take my responsibility. I'm not saying he's made up what he's missed, cause it's mom who has raised me and I wouldn't want it any other way, but what I'm saying is you don't have to shut the door. And be merciful :)

Whether or not he hasn't contacted his dad isn't it his dad's responsibility to then contact his kid? works both ways. Generally its the parents responsibility to maintain a relationship with their kids until they reach a certain age when both can then take on equal responsibility.

Doesn't deserve to be at graduation? Sounds like he hasn't been anywhere near for a while.

I know how hard it can be when there's not a father in your life. You are waaaaaaay better off without him. You may not think so, but you are. Whoever raised you obviously did a good job because look at you, YOU'RE GRADUATING. That's awesome. Advice: If you really do want to get to know him, don't force the relationship. This is HIS fault, not YOURS. :)

I know how you feel my father only calls me to leave abusive messages. When will parents learn that you have to earn respect not just be given it. OP don't reward bad behavior if he wants to act like child treat him like one.

Parents can be so very mean at times, with or without any reason . As a parent I think you should never fight with your children .

I haven't seen my father since I was 7 years old and he just started trying to reach out. I'm 20 now and it disgusts me that he's whining about me not answering his calls, especially considering that he fathered 10 other kids but refers to me, the youngest, as "the only family I've got" Don't sweat it OP, shitty father is shitty. Not your fault

It annoys me to see so many YDI votes on FML's that clearly did not deserve it.

He's the one with problems not you. Keep your head up!
