Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, after three weeks of my boss telling me how much he appreciates my hard work and has submitted my name up for a promotion, he called me into his office to announce I'm being laid off. FML
Today, while trying to get my boss to reconsider laying off much of my department, I accidentally convinced him to lay me off too. FML
Today, the CEO of my company wanted to meet with me. I was excited until I found out she just wanted to bitch me out and personally fire me. Later on, I found out my boss had totally shafted me and blamed the failure of a big project on me instead of admitting it was all his fault. FML
Today, at work, I accidentally walked into a meeting at which the whole company was there but me. The meeting was about how they could legally fire me while paying as little severance as possible. I'm the CEO and the founder of the company. FML
Today, my boss made me give a presentation to several senior company officials about the serious financial losses our division has made this year. Barely an hour later, my boss had palmed all the blame off onto me and gotten me fired. FML
Today, while at work, I was asked to see my boss. I was informed that the company would be laying off 20 people, and that I was one of them. I was told I could finish off the week, then was sent back to work. Twenty minutes later, my boss walked around and handed us all Christmas party invitations. FML
Today, I met with my boss hoping to hear about a possible raise that had been promised many months ago. He then told me that the only way I would get a raise was if I found a better paying job and took it, and that the company was in no position to offer anyone a raise. FML
Today, I was laid off on the day I was about to put in an offer on a house. This company promised me the world, and I broke myself working to prove my worth. Turns out, I wasn't getting paid for the lunches and breaks I didn't take either. FML
Today, my boss found out I had applied for a much better paying job. He told me I'd do a better job and make more money there. Then he fired me. FML
Today, my boss got a promotion and I got laid off. FML

OP, In case it’s not obvious to you, if you lay off all your employees you are next. Start looking for a new job now!

Been there. "Look nobody is getting fired." A week later "I thought you said nobody was getting fired!" Well, they weren't when I said that, I still felt like the biggest turd in the universe though.

When they find new jobs, they can ask for better wages.

Well, if you lay them off effectively, I'm sure your job is safe. Or, maybe not...

Should have some idea what your superiors think of your subordinates before you go around offering raises... You totally deserve it

Don’t promise anything...

they could have been told everyone was getting a raise. and then told later that it would actually be the ones left. Management types love that way of doing things in many places. since it does 2 big things. A) makes people happy about a raise. B) makes you the bad guy for firing the employees THEY want gone, with no real blow back to them.
