Today, four days before Christmas, I discovered a rash on my daughter's shoulder. The doctor took one look and said, "It's chicken pox. Merry Christmas." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, just three days into a much-needed vacation, my 5-year-old daughter has come down with chickenpox. FML
Today, I woke up to my five year old son picking off the scabs from his chicken pox and dropping them into my open mouth as I slept. FML
Today, at Church, the little boy sitting behind me asked his mother if I had the chicken pox, because there were red dots all over my face. I've had bad acne since I was twelve. FML
Today, my period has given to me 4 giant zits, 3 screaming shits, 2 stomach ulcers, and a fever blister on my lips. A few days until Christmas and the gifts keep coming. FML
Today, the heat rash that has been devouring my side for the last week was revealed to be something much worse: shingles. FML
Scratch that
Today, after 4 days of using anti-itch cream for what pharmacists and nurses have called “an allergic reaction”, I was diagnosed with shingles. FML
Congratulations…?
Today, my 16 year-old daughter thought it would be a great idea to announce at our Christmas dinner that she’s expecting twins, and that she wants to keep them. She doesn’t know who the dad is. Merry Christmas to me, I guess. FML
Better feel like shit than dead
Today, while preparing to celebrate my daughter's second birthday, we all discovered we got a present: COVID. We're all vaccinated, but still feel like shit. FML
Today, I found out I have dandruff when a chick passed by and said out loud to her friends: "That dude's hair is having an early Xmas!" FML
Today, I finally went to the doctor's office to have a small patch of acne on my stomach looked at. Since it was in an almost perfect circle and abnormally sensitive, I was worried it could be ringworm or some other sort of skin infection. It turned out to be an infection alright. Herpes. FML

Merry Christmas to your daughter! Once she's healed, she'll have the best gift ever! Immunity from chicken pox!

Any parent who refuses to allow their child to get a vaccination should be arrested for medical neglect. This is excluding if the child has a legitimate medical reason to not be vaccinated.

OP is from UK. We don't vaccinate for Chickenpox here, unless you're part of a vulnerable population (e.g. undergoing chemotherapy). The concern is that having herd immunity in some areas but not others would lead to the couple of unvaccinated people catching it in adulthood. There's also concerns about whether the vaccine could increase the rate of shingles. OP shouldn't be arrested for medical neglect, given that the NHS wouldn't offer it and doctors would tell her that she didn't need it.

Apparently chicken pox vaccines aren't part of the standard vaccination programme by the NHS in the UK. So it is not routinely offered unless you are in contact with adults or people who are vulnerable.

This is because if people were vaccinated then those who weren't (for whatever reason) would be more likely to get it as adults when it is more severe and dangerous (e.g. during pregnancy). It also apparently gives people more protection against shingles bu the vaccine does not. The NHS website explains it.

Holy hell people, vaccines are not fool proof- or might not even be offered in certain locations. Do vaccine reduce the risk of catching an illness? Yes, as long as the illness hasn't changed too much. But it isn't a 100% guarantee you won't get it. Plus, doctors may not offer certain vaccines or may refuse to administer them under certain circumstances, such as the child already being ill, or being too young for it to be safely administered. Plus, sometimes a strain of the illness is strong enough to bypass an immunization, which means someone who was vaccinated can catch it. If you're going to jump down someone's throat about something; at least try to understand the matter you are going to do so over.

In the UK it is not offered as routine.

If you get it after getting the vaccine, the effects are considerably lessened for most people.
