Today, as I was getting out of the car, my 7-year-old son opened the door for me. I thought it was very gentlemanly of him to do that, until he smashed my thumb with the car door. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend opened the car door in a very kind and loving way. What wasn't so kind and loving was that my hand was still half-way when he closed it. FML
Ouch!
Today, my son tripped into a door and slammed it shut. I'd been holding onto the door frame, leaning around to talk to a neighbour, so of course it slammed my fingers. It must be a really sharp door, because I just woke from the surgery to reattach my three amputated fingers. FML
Vintage cars
Today, I thought I'd be a suave gentleman by opening the car door for my date. The handle came off in my hand, and I had to spend the next 15 minutes pretending I was doing an impromptu repair on my piece of shit car, when I had no idea what I was doing. FML
Today, I found out how it feels to have a car door slammed shut on my hand, breaking two of my fingers. Hint: it's fucking painful. FML
Today, I let my son take my car out for a spin, since he just got his licence. He didn't make it out of our street before totaling it. FML
Today, I was giving my son a driving lesson. He blatantly ran a red light, so I told him to pull over to let me drive us home. As I walked over to the driver-side door, he instead locked me out and drove off by himself. FML
Today, I locked myself out and had to enter my house via the back door. Thinking I was an intruder, my 7-year-old daughter slammed a metal rake into the back of my head. Nice to know she can take care of herself. FML
Today, I was going into an office building. There was a boy and a man ahead of me, and the boy held the door open for me. Surprised, I said, "What a nice young man," and he said, "It's OK, ma'am; my dad says to always hold the doors open for old ladies." I'm 43. FML
Today, I went over to my friend's house. Her 5 year-old son answered the door and when he saw me said, "Oh great, it's YOU!" and slammed the door in my face. FML
I don't know my strength
Today, I gave the back door a slight nudge to make sure it was latched shut. Of course, it flew wide open, causing me to smash my face into the doorframe, fall out onto the back porch writhing in pain, and have blood pissing out of my face. FML

Him smashing your thumb probably wasn't on purpose

It might've been an accident, it might've been on purpose. Regardless, children generally don't understand the consequences of their actions so it's completely possible that he just didn't realize that it could hurt you.

It's a learning experience for everyone! Your son learned to make sure that the door is clear before closing it, and you learned to put your hand on the door when your son helps you out.

Please tell me he locked it too with the keys still in the car.

That happened to my mom once. She was screaming for someone to help while all us kids were just standing there looking around because we were so young and didn't know what to do. She ended up needing a bunch of stitches.

No doubt. I got my middle finger slammed in a car door when I was young and I almost lost the tip of my finger. On the bright side, after I got my stitches the wrap on my finger was so thick it pushed all my other fingers down. I also took the doc a bit to literal when he told me to keep my hand above my heart (I mean head and heart are the same thing right?) So when I went back to school I was flipping everyone off. I didn't get in trouble because I had a doctors note. Good times. Good times.
