Today, after several years spent hung up on my ex, I was finally moving on. I was on a date with my new boyfriend when my ex walked past us. He broke down crying, got on his knees, and begged me to come back. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I went to my ex-girlfriend's house to bring her her stuff back. We broke up earlier this week after a two year relationship, and I'd hoped she would've realized her mistake and ask me to stay for a bit and talk. I rang the doorbell and her new boyfriend opened the door. FML
Today, my mom called me to tell me she'd got in touch with my ex for his birthday, and that the two of them had made a plan for us to get back together. My new boyfriend was in the process of proposing to me. FML
Today, my boyfriend of over a year broke up with me. Completely crushed, I spent an hour gathering up everything he ever gave me. Then he calls back to say how stupid he was and how he wanted me back. I was ecstatic. An hour later he figured out he was okay with his first decision. FML
Today, I was coming home from a date, I saw my ex standing in my drive-way. He had dumped me 2 months ago saying he couldn't talk me. To make him jealous, I made out with my new guy before greeting him. Turns out he couldn't talk to me because he had had cancer and had been afraid to tell me. FML
Today, I was making out with my boyfriend. When we took a break and went downstairs, he checked the mail. He had received a letter from his ex-girlfriend, which he opened in front of me. He then began sobbing on my shoulder and broke up with me. He still had to drive me home. FML
Today, I went on a date I was really enjoying. My ex-boyfriend called halfway through. When I answered, he told me he wanted to get back together and couldn’t stop thinking about me. I didn’t realize my phone was on speaker. My date heard everything. FML
Today, my ex came back into my life, professing his love and begging for another chance. This begging act ended rather suddenly once he remembered I have a daughter. FML
Today, I was chilling with my best friend and suddenly I got a text from my ex saying he wanted me back. My best friend saw the text and said, "Don't go back with him, you deserve better." I wanted to go back with him but I didn't. Later, I saw them hanging out and turns out they're dating. FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. I found out he was seeing someone behind my back: my ex-boyfriend. FML
Today, I was with my boyfriend and we were in his car when he burst out crying, I thought it might have been because we had gotten into a huge fight and he felt bad. No, he cried on my shoulder for a half hour because he misses his ex-girlfriend. He's been writing songs about wanting her back. FML

You yourself said "after several years", so I feel its time to let him go. I know it sucks, but if it took him seeing you with someone else to want you back, he is not worth it. He shouldn't have let you go if he really wanted you. Try it our with your new guy and don't compare him to your ex- he's an EX for a reason!

For some reason, this FML makes me think of that damn mop in that one set of commercials. Baby come back! You can blame it all on me!! Some people just don't know how to let go and move on.

I can relate and understand what you are going through -for your self esteem, please don't do it - next time this happens, dress up to look insanely hot and show him what he can't have :)

There's a fairly well known saying when it comes to those like you with ALMOST ANY ex - "An EX is supposed to remain an EX, because they are suposed to be an (EX)AMPLE of who you are NOT supposed to be with." That guy caused you to wait a few years before coming to realize when seeing you with someone else that he wants to be with you. Take that saying into consideration, and don't go back to him. He'll most likely only end up doing the same thing all over again if you go back to him. It's better to give the new guy a shot. :)

If you're saying he had years to get you back, and the only time he decided he wants you back is when he saw you with someone else... You may want to think lonnnnngggg and hard about what your gonna do.

That's not cool. He's your ex for a reason, whether that reason be good or bad. If he only said he wanted you back after seeing you with somebody else?? Personally, I feel like it's a power game. My ex did it to me.. He knew I was hung and as soon as I would meet somebody else, there he was. He just wanted to have that power over me and the feeling that I would always be there pining for him. Glad I learned my lesson, good luck with your situation.
