Today, after I cleaned out the fridge of things that expired months ago, my roommate got angry and insisted upon pulling all the moldy dairy products out of the garbage and putting them back because "they weren't mine and I shouldn't throw out other people's food." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, surprisingly, my roommate made a nice meal. Within an hour, I started throwing up. When I confronted her, she confessed that she'd used long expired ingredients, including meat, because she didn't want the garbage men to think she's "the type that wastes food." FML
Today, my roommate yelled at me yet again for using the dishwasher because it's "unsanitary." This is all while a mountain of her dishes were going mouldy in the sink. FML
Yummy
Today, I came back to my apartment to see that my roommate had left out bread, deli meat, and cheese on the counter, so I made myself a sandwich. When she came back, she informed me that she found bugs in the fridge and took out all the food she thought would be contaminated. FML
Go vegan
Today, my roommate decided to go vegan and threw all of MY meats, cheeses, chocolates and even beans for some reason in the trash, because he "doesn't need that kind of toxic waste" in his life. FML
Today, I cleaned out the fridge for my mother. I didn't throw out a single thing that was less than a month past its expiration. Instead of thanks, she complained about everything that I threw away being still good, including a tub of butter that had been expired for two years. FML
Today, I came back to my dorm to find my roommate forgot to get rid of her massive amounts of cheese before break. She did, however, remember to unplug the refrigerator. FML
Rotten
Today, my roommate thought that "sour milk" would taste like sour candy. She left a jug of milk out for two days, then took a huge gulp, vomited everywhere, and dropped the jug. Now the kitchen stinks of rotten dairy. FML
Today, my roommate, who has bipolar disorder and refuses to take his meds, tried to stab me with a kitchen knife because I threw out his moldy cheese. FML
Roomies
Today, I moved in with my new roommate. She's a vegetarian, and won't let me put my meat in the fridge because it will "contaminate her food". FML
Am I really the asshole here?
Today, my girlfriend screamed at me for throwing away her food, calling me a sick, controlling psycho. When I pointed out that the seafood pasta I tossed was a week old and almost certainly rotten, she dug the box out of the trash and ate it to prove a point. Now she's got food poisoning and somehow it's my fault. FML

either make sure he eats them or blend them all up into a smoothie and don't tell him what it is until he's done drinking it:)

maybe your roommate has had a bad experience with this? Nevertheless, sounds a bit crazy...

YDI - where is your roommate that you can't say, "hey, throw out your garbage?" "Sell by" dates are store recommendations. They have shelf life beyond the store, otherwise they have to be taken off the store shelf in a reasonable amount of time. Granted, if it was "months" past, that's probably not cool, and milk is usually the exception (although my old roommate used to live with a guy who liked to drink bad milk, it was his personal preference) but things like unopened yogurt keep for a really long time beyond those dates.

What an ass, like anyone can eat it. They're obviously too lazy to throw it out themselves. Good work on cleaning out the fridge. =P

Ugh, I knew a girl who threw an absolute fit when I tossed her chunky milk out of the community fridge, even after fair warning that it was going to happen. People can be strange.

Let her. When she gets food poisoning, you can laugh.

Saving visibly spoiled food? Unless it's natto or bleu cheese or something else that looks rank when it's not, or if it's just out of date but not noticeably spoiled, you're within your rights. It's your fridge too!

lol best to just get your meals as you need them for now and let your roommate deal with the mold growing in the fridge. Sooner or later he'll learn that not all aged dairy is meant to be eaten.
