Today, after hours of protesting and tantrums, I finally got my kids to clean their rooms. They're all really proud of themselves and enjoying all the extra space. I'm stuck with the three extra loads of laundry they found in there. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Quality family time
Today, after a long talk with the kids, I finally got all the chores around the house done early so we could have a fun family weekend. My wife decided to be a wet blanket and insisted we needed to deep clean the already clean kitchen. Three arguments later, everyone is sulking, and I'm working in the kitchen alone. FML
Roommates from hell
Today, after a month of living in a pigsty of an apartment with my roommates, I spent the day cleaning the place out. When everyone returned home, instead of thanking me, all they could do was point out the spots I'd missed. FML
Can't win, part 15
Today, while my parents were grocery shopping, I cleaned the kitchen, swept floors, did laundry, and cleaned bathrooms, only to finish right before they got home. After dinner, my dad bitched and complained that I didn't take out the trash and he had no room to throw away his paper plate. FML
Another fine mess
Today, I recently quit doing housework in protest at my husband's laziness around the house, forcing him to start pulling his weight. The house has never been so clean. Apparently, most of the mess was caused by me moving things to clean around them and making the mess worse. FML
Today, after giving my kids a lengthy bedtime lecture about the merits of being responsible, I thought about all the chores I had left to do, promptly ate ice cream in the shower, and went to bed. FML
Today, my parents came home after being out of town for the weekend. I stayed home, did homework and completely cleaned the house, thinking I could earn some brownie points with them. They saw how clean the house was and accused me of covering up a party. FML
So unfair
Today, my mom asked my siblings and me for help cleaning the kitchen. After working for a half hour while all my siblings sat on the couch, I pointed out that I was the only one working. My mom thanked my siblings for not having attitudes like mine and sent me to my room. FML
Grossed out
Today, after threatening my son for weeks that if he didn't clean his room, I would, I went in, equipped with a garbage bag, ready to throw away everything I found, only to discover dozens of empty bottles, two partially empty pizza boxes, Taco Bell wrappers, and cockroaches. FML
Get Out
Today, I came home to find that my mother had cleaned my room, and she'd done a very good job, too. So good in fact, that she even managed to remove all of the furniture, replacing it with a note that said, "It's time to go, sweetie XO". FML
Cute but messy
Today, my kids made a mess in the kitchen while trying to make breakfast in bed for me. The mess was bigger than the breakfast. FML

Now is a great time to teach them how to do their own damned laundry.

So... Teach them do it themselves? You parents really need to stop underestimating the value of chores...

In op's defence, her kids still may be too young to do laundry. Just because you can clean your room, doesn't automatically mean you are responsible or mature enough to use a washer and dryer. For all we know they're only 6 years old.

That's old enough to fold laundry. Running the machine is never the hard or bad part. It's folding. Make those ***** fold their own. I did when I was four and on.

Ok, doing laundry is not fun, but the machines do the work, not like your going down to a river with a rock.

It's the sorting, folding, and putting it all way that's the worst part, dude. That's probably what OP is dreading.

your kids must have a ton of clothes if all that was dirty and they still hadn't run out. maybe time to get them a hamper or two.

Depending on how many kids it might not be that bad. There are six of us in my house (including my mom and grandma) and 3-5 loads a week is average for us.

My kids are responsible for their own laundry once they turn 9. If I end up doing the laundry, I pick out what they will be wearing for the next week, something none of them want me to do.

They need to get to folding.

when i was a kid i did as i was told, because if i didnt my dad would whip my ass. none of this temper tantrum for hours bullshit. either teach your kid to listen to people in charge or unemployment will.

Hey, just cause you probably need to hear it... you are doing a great job. Parenting is hard in the best of circumstances and strangers not picking at your need to vent can't help. I've found a great resource is a podcast called One Bad Mother. I hope you have a good support system getting you through the more trying moments of parenting.
