Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I found out my newly-divorced father is now going to marry my girlfriend's mother. Tough situation here. FML
Today, I got married and my mom refused to be there because my dad, whose guts she hates, was there even though I promised repeatedly that I would keep them apart. I couldn't do the mother-son dance. She keeps insisting that it was a "lapse in judgment." Yeah, like we're really going to be able to have a do-over. FML
Today, my parents told me they won’t be attending my wedding, all because my fiancée is the woman I cheated on my ex with and left her for. What they fail to understand is that people and hearts change. It wouldn’t be fair to remain by my ex’s side while being in love with someone else. FML
Today, my mom let it slip that she was divorcing my dad. After making me promise to keep it from him and my little sisters, she had me help her with her plans to renovate the house. She intends to kick him out once it's done. FML
Today, my dad had a chat with my fiancé, telling him he can do better than me, and to think carefully before going through with our wedding. FML
Today, my mom told me to be my sister’s maid of honor at her wedding or I’m out of her will. She says if I don’t go, I’m being selfish, and she wants to see her “baby girls” bonding one last time before she dies. I would gladly go if my sister wasn’t marrying my ex-husband, who cheated on me with her. FML
Today, my dad, who lives hours away, called and told me he was getting married. Today. As in this evening. Guess I'm not invited. FML
Today, my mom is marrying my ex boyfriend's dad. The same ex boyfriend who I caught cheating on me with my sister. Family gatherings are going to be such a joy! FML
Today, I’m stuck in a situation. It’s my mom's wedding, but her fiancé had a heart attack and died this morning. Now I’m surrounded by crying people, having to pretend to be upset so no one gets mad at me. I couldn’t care less to be honest, the man was an arsehole who treated mom and me like shit in private. FML
Today, I was out and was having a wonderful time. At exactly midnight, I get a call from my father. He's divorcing my mother. He's also going to Florida with his mistress for the weekend. If that wasn't the best news ever, he'd love if I found an apartment to live in ASAP. FML

Don’t go. Mom has already been betrayed by your dad. Plus it will probably be super-awkward for you to act happy, when you still haven’t had the time to process the divorce. Sorry you are having to go through this.

Why is this a question in your mind? Going would be condoning your father’s betrayal. Even the marriage to your mom was doomed to end, there’s a right way and a wrong way to end a relationship. Put yourself in your mother’s shoes, how would you feel?

I gotta ask, was your mom that bad of a person to even have this question? Like, truthfully, if your mom was a horrible person and your dad wasn’t completely in the wrong for having a mistress (which honestly she’d have to be TERRIBLE and abusive to all involved), then that should also answer your question. But of course this is weird to ask if she was a great mom and wife...

Here's a thought: Don't go to your cheating dad's wedding.

Go, your father doesn't owe your mother his happiness. Being focused on being bitter about a unhappy relationship ending is not a productive mindset. Your moms inability to move on and accept the current reality is doing a disservice to you both.

Did you bother to read this in detail? OP's father is marrying his mistress the day after divorcing his wife. That means he was cheating, and has chosen that date to spite his soon-to-be ex-wife. Both of these are dick moves. OP's mom could have had time to get over the fact that her marriage was ending, but this admission will have reminded her just how much of an asshole her husband is, and whatever bitterness she had, if any, will be completely buried by the heartache of her marriage ending, along with the possibility of OP putting the happiness of his prick of a father over being there for his mother. I don't know if this wedding happened before lockdown, or is still pending, but your mom needs you, OP. Your dad is a turd, and seems to be doing all he can to hurt your mom. Leave him to his mistress. She's obviously all he cares about. For now, at least.

Agreed, BurnInDemonFire. Hell, if I was OP, I would cut all ties with him.

By the way, Brightside86, are you ******* serious? So you're condoning his cheating on his wife? What is wrong with you?

Your dad sounds like a asshat , why would you take his side when your mum has already been hurt ?
123Puppy 33
Yea, you shouldn’t go. What your dad did was completely heartless!

This exact thing happened to me left my house the day of the wedding and he threatened to call the cops on a “missing child” but ended up not forcing me to go still happy with my decision to this day

I’d say your dad. That sounds like he cheated on your mother. Stay away from the wedding.

devastate your dad is what I say

"Mom, I love you and dad. Don't feel betrayed." and go. I'm assuming she's saying that because he cheated on her with that woman... Divorce finalized and starting the process could take a year or more. Maybe he met this woman during that time?
