Today, my boyfriend said he wanted to marry me. Since he doesn't know my ring size, he asked for me to find a ring that I liked, and he would buy it and propose. The only problem is that he won't spend more than 200 dollars on it. Oh, the generosity. FML

It's about the love, not the ring.

$200 is way more than you should spend on a ring anyway. YDI for valuing the ring over the love!

Get a Ring Pop for an engagement ring. They taste good also which most other rings don't really taste that great. (; Your Welcome.

i'm sorry. I thought the mere concept of him wanting to propose to you might be amazing enough. the ring has to bankrupt him in order to still hold any amazing-ness???

maybe u can ask him to go to like a grocery store and buy one of those 25 cent rings. those things are bitchin

you're horrible. the ring doesn't prove your love. you don't deserve a ring.

today, I proposed to my gf that I love. I don't have much money, so I told her to pick out a ring for 200$. She threw a hissy fit and said I wasn't spending enough money. I want to marry a materialistic bitched, FML.

Maybe OP's bf shouldve gotten an education and not a job at the local pizza joint. Not every girl wants to announce her engagement, have everyone rush over to see the ring, and then produce a dumpy $200 piece of cubic zirconium and aluminum. the bf should either wait to save enough money for a real ring or talk to the girl and agree to get engaged, but wait until they have enough money to buy a real ring.

So what your saying is that because the OP's boyfriend doesn't have allot of money he shouldn't marry her? OP you are a shallow bitch, be happy someone loves you enough to give you one.

I'm saying they should wait until they can actually support themselves. Being able to afford only $200 for a ring makes me wonder how they will afford a place to live, food, clothes, etc

As if that's what you were talking about. you, just like a lot of other commenters, brought up the point of showing /others/ and what /others/ think. Jesus, it's a ring. It's supposed to be SYMBOLIC of his love, not a literal represetation. A cheaper ring does not mean less love. :|

Maybe... because they budget their money to pay bills first and set aside small amounts to spend on frivolous things like jewelry? Just a thought.

Not wanting to spend a lot of money on a RING does not mean you're poor. My husband and I make enough to pay the bills each week, with about $200-300 as extra. Do I want to spend that on a ring? Hell no. Another vacation would be lovely, though.

Honestly, I kind of agree with the OP. Personally, I think since these rings will be worn forever (hopefully), they should look nice, and you're not going to get anything that looks very nice for less than $200. Then again, when my fiancé gets me an engagement ring, I'm getting him one, too. And we're not having a wedding either (don't want it), so in our case, our rings can be worth a little more.

23, you're a ****. $62,000? Wow, I'm so impressed by the value of that. I'm like super glad you posted that. 175, I thought you were down with sexism? So why does the man gave to support the woman? That's sexist!

OP, don't be such a smartass about it. He will probably come to realize that it's VERY hard to buy a nice engagement ring for $200. He probably has some false hope on skating away with a ring that costs as much as an XBox. My husband saved for a while for my rings, and they're very nice. Not $62,000 nice, but it's something I have on me all the time and I cherish them because of what they mean. You can always upgrade your stone or setting for an anniversary....
