Today, some aggressive asshole was tailgating me on my way home, bumping into me twice. I got scared and kicked my car into high gear and got out of there. Seconds later, a traffic cop came out of nowhere and pulled me over for speeding. FML

Today, I was tailgated on the highway. There was a car in the lane next to me, and my tailgater was WAY too close to risk slowing down, so I sped up in order to switch lanes, which bumped me over the speed limit. That's when my tailgater turned on the flashing lights. FML
Today, a cop almost rear-ended my car, slammed on the gas with no warning, swerved around me, flipped me the bird, then cut me off and then drove a full ten miles under the speed limit. When I changed lanes to overtake him, he pulled me over for road rage. FML
Today, I was tailgated by a car with his high beams on for an hour. Any time I changed my speed or lane, he would do the same. I finally managed to get away from him because a cop pulled me over and gave me a speeding ticket. FML
Today, while driving home, some idiot kept tailgating me, so I slowed down, hoping he'd overtake me. He didn't, so I pulled to the side of the road. He did the same, in front of me. He kept toying with me until I crashed into another car trying to speed away from him. FML
Today, I was driving home from work and noticed the car behind me was tailgating me pretty badly. I was starting to get angry with the driver, and kept glancing in my rear view mirror at him. While I was doing so, the traffic ahead of me stopped, and I rear-ended the car in front of me. FML
Today, while I was driving, a police officer jumped out from the sidewalk and into my lane. I slammed on the brakes so I wouldn't hit him. He then gave me a ticket for "obstructing traffic." FML
Today, I was driving a little over the speed limit, when I saw a cop car waiting to join the road ahead of me. I quickly hit the brakes so they wouldn't have a payday with me. I hit the brakes too hard, lost control and almost ended up on someone's lawn. FML
Today, after driving a few hours late at night I decided to entertain the car tailgating me by not letting him pass. After doing this for 3miles, reaching 93MPH, I decided to let the car pass me. When I switched lanes, the car tailgating me light up in red and blue. It was a cop. FML
Today, a girl was tailgating me, even though I was going at speed limit. Annoyed, I drove 10 mph under the speed limit, and every time she honked, I went 5 mph slower. Too bad she got the last laugh… I was pulled over for "reckless driving." FML
Today, the car in front of me was going slow and I flashed my lights and honked. I floored it and passed the car, flipping off the driver. Just as I went around the next corner, I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop. A few seconds later, the guy I flipped off drove by honked and waved. FML

Usually, cops don't sympathize they'll tell you that you could've just pulled over or switched lanes instead of speeding. But, I hope the cop goes easy on OP.

I think even after the fact the ticket can be fought in court. Most places allow reasonable speeding in instances of defensive driving. If you told the officer at the time of ticket issue and especially if you gave him plate numbers or a description of the dangerous car, claiming necessity will often get the charges dropped.

This wouldn't qualify as an exigent circumstance for a ticket to be dropped by law. OP. could've easily pulled over so the driver could pass instead of speeding. There's obviously something missing in this situation.

Honestly, if you don't like getting tailgated, why be a dick? Just pull over to the next lane. Granted he bumped into your car (get his info) but I have no sympathy for dumb/aggressive/ or spiteful drivers. The cop may have sympathy but it depends in how fast you were speeding, how big your boobs are, and how much you're crying.

You should've called the police, tell them where you are and that there is a reckless driver bumping into your car. They will either come and arrest the driver or give you instructions to get out of that situation legally.

The suggested course of action when dealing with a tail gater is to change lanes if on a multilane road or in the case of a single lane road slow down and slightly shift your lane position to the right. This gives the tail gater a better chance of not hitting your car if you need to slow down or brake.
