Today, my overly-attached 14-year-old cat wanted attention while I was in a heated Skype argument with my girlfriend. Worked up from the fight, I raised my voice and said, "Not now, go away!" He ran to his little bed, had a heart attack and died. I was a complete dick to my cat in his last moments. FML

Today, I ignored my cat's incessant meowing, and pushed him away every time he wanted to be petted. The next time I walked downstairs I found him dead. FML
Today, my cat played dead just so I would leave him alone. FML
Today, my mom called me an attention seeker and threw a bitch fit because my cat "decided" to die on her birthday. FML
Today, I awoke to my cat sitting on my chest. That wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't tried to get her off. She promptly went crazy and scratched me. My fiancée, who was sleeping next to me, hit me, called me cruel, and told me to apologize to the cat. I did. FML
Today, I took my cat to the vet. He said he felt a strange lump that could be serious. I got really upset and picked her up, crying. The vet then told me I had to put her down. Absolutely devastated by having to euthanize my cat, I passed out. He meant I had to put her back on the table. FML
Today, I had to put my 17 year-old cat down. I cried the whole way up to the vet's office and back. After finally coming to terms with the situation, and trying to forget, my dad's friend walks up to me and says, "So, I heard you killed your cat?" FML
Today, my cat sat on me, 30 minutes before I had to go to work. When I picked him up almost immediately after he got comfortable so I could get ready, he looked and sounded absolutely crushed. FML
Today, after I had planned a romantic weekend for my boyfriend and me, with an itinerary of dinner, events and outings, it got cut short when he had to have his cat put down, which he had for 12 years. FML
Today, at the end of a 15 hour shift, my girlfriend and her friends played a "prank" on me by texting me from a random number saying my cat got hit by a car. I immediately burst into tears and lost it in front of my colleagues. My cat is fine. My relationship is the real joke. FML
Today, my girlfriend furiously bitched me out because I got more upset about my phone screen cracking than when she told me about the death of her cat. We hadn't even met when her cat died. Did she expect me to burst into tears from hearing the story? Guess who's single again… FML

I did cry... something similar happened to me, I got home with my boyfriend and we were fighting, I was mad so my puppy jumped up for attention and I shoved him off and said not now I'm not in the mood leave me alone.. about 30 second after that he got out the door that was left open a little bit to chase off another dog and got hit by a car right in front of me... he died protecting me even though I was an asshole :( I feel for you OP xx :(

our pets are like our family and even though we love them with all our hearts they will irritate us or come to us at the wrong time and unfortunately we will snap at them even though they don't deserve it. its so unfortunate what happened to OP and I hope he knows in his heart that his kitty loved him and kitty knew he was loved as well. let's all take a moment to hug our kitties and puppies and tell them we love them. and in the future always be careful what you say because you never know what will happen that day. and if you do snap at your pet immediately apologize and hug them

Me too, #164. I read that one the other day. That story was unfortunate as well as this one. Although, this story is heartbreaking. It reaches out to many FML users. Many have loved animal friends/family and some have had similar experiences. Stories like this remind us to take advantage of our loved ones and the time we have with them, for we never know when the last moment we share with them will be. Make every moment count, and every memory last a lifetime.
