Today, my overly-attached 14-year-old cat wanted attention while I was in a heated Skype argument with my girlfriend. Worked up from the fight, I raised my voice and said, "Not now, go away!" He ran to his little bed, had a heart attack and died. I was a complete dick to my cat in his last moments. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I ignored my cat's incessant meowing, and pushed him away every time he wanted to be petted. The next time I walked downstairs I found him dead. FML
Today, my cat played dead just so I would leave him alone. FML
Today, my mom called me an attention seeker and threw a bitch fit because my cat "decided" to die on her birthday. FML
Today, I awoke to my cat sitting on my chest. That wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't tried to get her off. She promptly went crazy and scratched me. My fiancée, who was sleeping next to me, hit me, called me cruel, and told me to apologize to the cat. I did. FML
Today, I took my cat to the vet. He said he felt a strange lump that could be serious. I got really upset and picked her up, crying. The vet then told me I had to put her down. Absolutely devastated by having to euthanize my cat, I passed out. He meant I had to put her back on the table. FML
Today, I had to put my 17 year-old cat down. I cried the whole way up to the vet's office and back. After finally coming to terms with the situation, and trying to forget, my dad's friend walks up to me and says, "So, I heard you killed your cat?" FML
Today, my cat sat on me, 30 minutes before I had to go to work. When I picked him up almost immediately after he got comfortable so I could get ready, he looked and sounded absolutely crushed. FML
Today, after I had planned a romantic weekend for my boyfriend and me, with an itinerary of dinner, events and outings, it got cut short when he had to have his cat put down, which he had for 12 years. FML
Today, at the end of a 15 hour shift, my girlfriend and her friends played a "prank" on me by texting me from a random number saying my cat got hit by a car. I immediately burst into tears and lost it in front of my colleagues. My cat is fine. My relationship is the real joke. FML
Today, my girlfriend furiously bitched me out because I got more upset about my phone screen cracking than when she told me about the death of her cat. We hadn't even met when her cat died. Did she expect me to burst into tears from hearing the story? Guess who's single again… FML

What? Is a dead cat? That's so wrong. If that's what you're implying then this is the wrong place to do so, especially when OP is more than likely mourning. You don't have to like cats but you don't need to be a jerk either.

Why do people think cats are shit pets? You can do a lot with cats. They are friendly, cuddly animals that are really affectionate, and catnip is the funniest thing.

I never got to have a pet cat because when my dad was younger he had a pet cat that would sit on the fridge all day & attack anyone who came near it (even family)

#228 it's not a lack of humour being the problem, it's where you're saying your humour, saying "only a good cat is a dead cat" in the comments of someone's cat dying is like saying a terrorist joke at a 911 memorial! (Hopefully that comparison isn't too offensive, if it gets rejected then I'll post a different comparison. Again, sincerest apologies) It's not the right place to say such things or do such actions!

#14...Whoa dude. There is a time and place. I understand (kind of) that you're trying to be humorous, but this is not the place to do so. This person is really hurting right now. Have you never lost someone important to you? If not, try to imagine how it feels. It's not the best feeling in the world, and it does not make it any better for someone to make a joke out of it. Not cool, man. Not cool. Whether it is meant as a joke or not, think about what you are saying, and whether or not it is appropriate.

Really? Why would you hit YDI? It wasn't OP's fault that he yelled, when you're mad, you normally have a tendency to do things you regret, to add on that, the stress from the issues with his girlfriend along with his cat dying before his eyes is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm probably going to get downvoted for my temper, but whatever, I felt i needed to point it out
