Today, at my girlfriend's place, I cleaned up her room, put candles everywhere, scented the air, and placed rose petals all over her bed in an attempt to be romantic and loving. The first thing she said when she saw all this was, "Uhhhhgg, I'll have to clean all this up." FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I lit candles and scattered rose petals on the floor and on the furniture to surprise my girlfriend. When she came in, she sneezed uncontrollably because apparently she’s extremely allergic to these particular roses. The night ended with me driving her to the ER instead of dinner. FML
Today, I tried to surprise my boyfriend by cleaning the entire apartment before he came home. I even lit a candle and put fresh flowers on the table. When he walked in, he stared at everything and said, “Did someone come over?” My boyfriend thought a cleaning service had been hired. FML
Today, I wanted to surprise my girlfriend by cleaning the entire house while she was at work. I even lit incense to make it extra special. When she came home, she walked in, sniffed, and immediately accused me of "cheating or something" because "only guilt makes you clean this much." She also blamed me for adding more dust by burning incense. FML
Today, wanting to be romantic, I came home with flowers, and told my girlfriend that I loved her and that I never wanted us to fall apart. Before I could finish my second sentence, she farted, said, "Aww, that's so sweet" and quickly excused herself to go to the bathroom. FML
Today, I thought I would be cute for my one year anniversary with my girlfriend, so I cooked a three course meal for her with candles and rose petals on the floor. She loved the dinner, except now she's passed out in a food coma upstairs while I'm left with the dishes. FML
Today, I decided to surprise my girlfriend by cooking her dinner. I spent hours preparing and making sure everything was perfect. I lit candles, set the table, and even put on some soft music. When she came home, she'd already eaten and wasn't hungry. FML
Today, I planned a romantic dinner with rose petals, the whole lot, for my ex-girlfriend to win her back. When I took her to my house, I told her to guess what I had planned, to which she replied, "I hope it's not a stupid romantic dinner with rose petals and shit." FML
Today, I visited my boyfriend's house excited about the romantic night he promised me. As time passed, we started making out and heading up to his room. Rose petals and candles filled his room. "How romantic", I thought. That is, until we saw his 5 year old sister blowing up condom balloons. FML
Today, I sent a scantily clad pic to my boyfriend, to which he responded "Nice, but please clean your room". FML
Today, I brought a girl back to my place. She commented on how neat and clean everything was for a bachelor. I absentmindedly said, “Yeah, my mom comes over and cleans three times a week.” She made a face like I'd just told her I eat puppies or something, then made an excuse to leave. FML

it was a nice thought, but i live with somebody exactly like that - he leaves the mess for me to clean up. It's not much of a "romantic gesture" if she has to clean it all up.

i do feel quite bad for you. my boyfriend tried to do something like that for me once, when i was out he tidied my room and made sure it was all perfect before i got home... but he'd put everything in the wrong place, so i spent about an hour after getting home redoing everything he'd done.

not every girl is the romantic type, I'm not but my boyfriend tries to be and it just makes me uncomfortable. I just want a boy who can make me laugh and has my back n shit, maybe thats what your girl wants. besides roses stain like everything, i sat on one once and i can't wear those pants anymore without people assuming i had my period.

Replying to the people who commented to my comment above. I'm not saying ALL guys do is think about is sex. They do, on the other hand think about it WAY more than women. Again, she could've been in some kind of mood (the mood every women gets in when, as you put it, typical male steps in and wants sex at that moment) that made her pissed off. Respect her. If she is in a bad mood, be the romantic person you sound like and, instead of sex, ask her about her day, how she is, how her friends are, etc. I promise that will open many doors in your relationship...including much more one on one time ;) I hope I didn't sound like "that" type of girl who thinks that every single guy at every single moment of every single day thinks about sex. All I said was she must've been in some kind of phase where she thought your intentions were for sex and that was the last thing on her mind. Also, what else was the gesture for if it wasn't for sex, then?
