The best laid plans…
Today, I decided to surprise my girlfriend by cooking her dinner. I spent hours preparing and making sure everything was perfect. I lit candles, set the table, and even put on some soft music. When she came home, she'd already eaten and wasn't hungry. FML

A surprise is not always a good idea. It would have been better letting GF in on your plans - Then she could have anticipated your meal instead of being full.

I applaud your effort, and your heart is in the right place. I'd give a B+. Next time please consider if she likes surprises. Also, find a way to divert her from doing something that might derail it.
