Today, I told my boyfriend I’m pregnant. He immediately had a massive panic attack about how a kid is going to ruin his life and split us up, because obviously I’ll choose the baby over him. We’re now in hospital because he hyperventilated, passed out and fractured his skull on the door handle. FML

it's a big news so I understand his reaction. Kids are ******* expensive and time consuming. It's not something you want to take on without being prepared.

Well that's a normal reaction. Not everybody has a strong will. I know i'd panic at first too... Don't put too much thought into it! :) congrats if you are pregnant!

Never inform that you could be pregnant, wait til you know unless you wanna take him to that appointment. It saves a whole lot of stress incase you come to find out you aren't.

Because the women should have to bear the entire burden of being nervous and stressed out all by themselves? What? Are the "men" too fragile to even deal with the possibility of having a kid? Puh-lease! There's no reason why a woman shouldn't be able to say to her boyfriend or husband, "my period is late by a couple of days." it's called honesty. Maybe OP wanted to tell him because she wanted him to be there when she got and/or took the test. There's no reason the woman should go through that alone when she's in a committed relationship. She is allowed to simply want to keep her boyfriend informed as to what's going on with her. Sorry OP, it sounds like your man needs to grow a pair and realize that if he's having sex he's risking pregnancy since no birthcontrol is 100% effective. Hope hes knows better than to freak out unless you know for sure that you're pregnant.

114- ever consider that some women might want to confirm their pregnancy before telling their partner something that may or may not be true? I know I would be more anxious if I told my partner before I knew for certain, because he would be fussing around me like an old mother hen.

#114 I agree with you 100%. It astonishes me how many people advocate keeping secrets from your partner. Honesty and communication are the most important qualities. I tell my partner every fear and anxiety I have. And potentially being pregnant is a pretty big thing to have to deal with on your own.

A bit of a role reversal there :3

Its okay, he's shocked. Its a huge thing that comes with a lot of VERY important decisions. I don't know about him, but I know big forks in the road like that make ME really nervous sometimes. Having anxiety issues makes it worse. What matters is what happens when the couple has time to think about it and talk together.

Even when you are as ready for a child as you are ever likely to be, it's a very scary prospect. I don't think it's a very bad sign - if he was expecting just to walk away then he wouldn't give a shit. The fact that he's panicking about the responsibility suggests that he expects to accept that responsibility to at least some degree. Give him time and you may find he's more responsible than you think.

What do you expect him to do? Doesn't seem like you were planning on this so his reaction only seems normal.

Quite sure my boyfriend would do the same thing if I broke that news to him. But he's also stated before that he would definitely still be there for me, so after that "ohshitohshitohshit" moment, he would settle down and start preparing

I don't understand all these "You have a pregnancy scare, you didn't use protection, YDI" comments. Did none of you ever take sex ed, read a condom box, or use birth control?? There is no way to be sexually active and be 100% protected against pregnancy.

You're idiots. The both of ya.
