Thanksgiving
Questions about your love life, a burnt turkey and the cousin who knows everything: Thanksgiving, a contact sport.
Today, my mother-in-law gave me a bottle of champagne for my birthday. This is the third year in a row she has done this. I'm a recovering alcoholic, and she's well aware of that fact. FML
Today, it's my one-year anniversary of being sober. For the occasion, my father decided to spice-up my non-alcoholic cocktail with booze. I didn't realize, and drank it. FML
Today, as a recovering alcoholic, I called my brother to share the news that I've been sober for a month. He invited me to a bar to celebrate. FML
Today, my mom celebrated a year's sobriety by having a couple of beers with her boyfriend. FML
Today, I received a very expensive bottle of wine for Christmas. My alcoholic mother snuck into my house while I was out and drank the whole bottle. FML
Today, I'm a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. On new years, my mom called and asked what kind of champagne I want. FML
Today, I celebrated my friend's 5-month sobriety milestone with her by getting absolutely wasted. FML
Today, I found out that the neighbor I'd given a bottle of wine to for Christmas is a recovering alcoholic. FML
Today, I've been one year sober. My health has improved a lot, unlike my social life, which has died a horrible, lonely death. FML
Today, I came home from partying all night, having stayed completely sober. My Dad, blind drunk, told me he was proud of me for staying sober. He claims to have been sober longer than I have. FML

Well it can serve as a great reminder to keep going with your sobriety.

If you've been sober that long I'm sure you can stay strong and resist it. Did your uncle even know what the celebration was for though? That's pretty inconsiderate.

Ok I put you deservit because It is a test.
tiernang 21
are you saying she failed the 'test'? I am assuming she didnt drink it, so she doesnt deserve it.

#15 even if it was a test it doesn't make it right for him to bring alcohol to an alcoholic especially when it's his niece that just makes her uncle an inconsiderate douche.

Yes I can see both of you point yet the same thing happend to my family ok and I'd expect for that to happen

#74 just because that happened with your family does not mean it will happen with OP. Everyone has different levels of strength and weaknesses. You don't know if OP caved in and drank that champagne for certain. To assume she did because of your experience within your own family is stupid.

I know how you feel! When I got to my 6 months of being sober my whole family got drunk to celebrate. Just got to walk to that sink and pour it away, congrats on being sober though, hardest thing of my life.

Happy birthday 1 year that is a big accomplishment! You know you are strong and who ever did that is an idiot but you can forgive him now with the tools you have one day at a time, right! Again congratulations the first year is the hardest!

Destroy the bottle as a mark of your sobriety and strength, not a bad symbolic gesture if you ask me.

He probably thinks that recovery means you have learned to handle your drinking. He may not understand that for many many people, it means never drinking again for fear of slipping into old habits.

I think that your uncle was probably testing you however he crossed a huge line and it is very unacceptable, my sister is a recovering alcoholic and I know how hard it had probably be bit com regulation congratulations for staying sober for a year it's definitely something to celebrate, I'm proud of you keep up the hard work..

what's the matter with all you people encouraging the OP to take a drink, do you not realize they quit drinking, suggesting they are a recovering alcoholic? idiots..
