Long distance
Today, I'm in my fourth month of training in the US Navy. I'm 3000 miles from home. I joined to give my wife a better life. Since I've been gone, she decided that she liked being single. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, after I was on deployment 6000 miles away, and because my wife was struggling pretty bad with work, kids, and taking care of everything on her own, she finally had a breakdown so I came home early to help. I found out she was fucking another Navy dude the whole time. I should've stayed out there. FML
Today, I'm seven months into a twelve month deployment. I called my fiancée, and she dumped me. The worst part is that two days ago, I re-enlisted to go to a unit an hour away from her house. FML
Today, my girlfriend of three years broke up with me because I'm in the military and I'm gone too much. The reason I enlisted in the first place is because we agreed that the money and benefits I would earn would help us be able to start a family in the future. FML
Today, I got back from a six month deployment overseas. My girlfriend of three years couldn't pick me up from the airport because she had an intramural softball game to go to. FML
Today, I found out my new Commanding Officer is my ex-wife's new boyfriend. We're going on a two year tour at sea in two weeks. The reason we got a divorce is that she couldn't handle being tied down with someone in the Navy. FML
Today, I got back from an 8 month deployment but rather than being pleased to see me my wife wanted to continue the same argument we were having the day I left. I miss being shot at. FML
Today, my girlfriend of six months dumped me over the phone. I'm in the military and recently had to move away to another fort. We'd agreed that we would try to make long distance work. I'd even offered to buy a plane ticket to come see her each weekend. I've been gone less than two weeks. FML
Today, I found out after 6 months in basic training that my wife of 3 years was playing the long game to scam me. She took me for 25k while I was away, then left me for a homeless meth head. I've been "getting divorced" now longer than we had been happily married. FML
Today, my girlfriend of over a year broke up with me while I'm deployed overseas. Her reason why is that she needs "to be alone to better herself." FML
Today, I graduated from Basic Training. I was really looking forward to seeing my family after being away for almost three months. They decided not to come to graduation because they didn't want to spend the money to travel here. They live 30 minutes away. FML

Oh come on! Stop using that ******* bullshit argument every time. Read the following statement well, make sure you understand it, then read it again for about 10 times: YOU. CANNOT. DEFEND. YOUR. OWN. COUNTRY. ON. A. DIFFERENT. CONTINENT. Got it? CANNOT. Even so, and this is another statement you have to read 10 times: NOT. EVERYONE. ON. THE. INTERNET. IS. AMERICAN. There are other countries out there. I realise this is a scary concept, but America is not alone.

"YOU. CANNOT. DEFEND. YOUR. OWN. COUNTRY. ON. A. DIFFERENT. CONTINENT. " Actually... you can. During WW2 Australians were fighting off the Japanese in Singapore, Indonesia & Papua New Guinea because we knew once those countries fell it'd be us next. (Not to mention Japan had already bombed us). Another example: WW2 again, the British were fighting the Nazis on mainland Europe because they knew once mainland Europe fell, the Nazis would be aiming for England next. (And they were already bombing England anyway). Sometimes helping another country defend itself is the best preventative measure in defending your own country.

Luckily, that argument fails entirely since Americans are not and have not ever helped Iraq defend itself. They just messed the place up.

so you decided to join the army to give ur wife a better life? maybe she thought her life was perfectly fine when she could see you daily and love you. I'm sure if she loved you she didn't care a damn about the income, but rather cared about the fact that you were IN HER LIFE WITH HER. and if you were willing to "make her life better" by leaving her alone... it's kind of your fault. just saying. if my husband told me "i want to make your life better so i'm going to go do [blank] so I can make us some more money, but i'll have to leave and not see you for months on end. btw it also may involve risking my life. but i get paid great" i would say "i care more about you and what we have together than about making more money. even if we were dirt poor and lived on food stamps, it'd be better than not waking up to your face every day" duh. common. sense.

I feel ya. My ex husband is in the Navy, and he decided he liked Navy issued ass better than mine and left me after 12 years, we just had a baby when he did.

HEy #23! Please do tell, what kind of job gives the benefits that the military gives? You get 2 guarenteed paychecks, free medical, about $2000 in dental coverage each year (I think), free housing, free heat, and free electricity and it doesn't require any college degrees. So do tell, I would love to know if you have the info for a job like that, because every single unemployed person in this country would live to know! btw to theperson that wrote this: dude, you are doing a great thing for your country and your heart was in the right place with wanting to make a better life for your wife. Divorce her and move on becuause she clearly wasn't worth it. (Just make sure you don't pay her back with cheating bc that's very definitly against the UCMJ)

The heart of someone in the military will never be in the right place until they resign. I actually consider joining the military cheating because you get paid relatively tremendous amounts of money for (again, relatively) little work. Especially since that job has such a negative effect on the places you encounter.

Hey have you ever been in the military? Have you ever worked 7 day work weeks? Been separated from your family for 5, 6, 9, 12 months? Gotten a 72 hour deployment notice for only $1900 a month? Yeah go ahead and keep making stupid comments, I'm sure no one will come along who knows what they are talking about.
arienh4 0
Nope, I have not done all those things. Because I'm not dumb enough, as I've explained in my previous comment. If you think you can have a serious discussion about this, I'm open to PM.

Some people are cheaters. Some people aren't. It's good that you found out now. Just keep doing what you do for your country and know that there are many of us who are thankful to you. Hopefully the divorce is fairly quick so you can heal and move on. Best wishes to you, sir.
