It takes strength to be gentle and kind
Today, I was small talking with an elderly man, who told me that nobody cares about him. Even though I had only known him for an hour, to try and make him feel a little better I told him I care about him. He then called me a creep, stomped his cane onto my foot, and walked off. FML

I can imagine you living up to your new creepy name by shouting, "BUT WHAT ABOUT EVERYTHING WE HAD?!" after him as he stomped off.

that's a bit harsh

Well, that probably explains why nobody cares about him. Even if he did find your comment creepy, physically harming you was a bit of an over-the-top reaction.

Shows he can appreciate . Maybe thats why no one cares for him cause he repays them with that.

Your statement threatened to take his complaint away from him. Complaints are the most precious possession to old folks.

And he wonders why no one cares..

People don't like insecure compliments. Although well intended it is insulting Next time say something like "I'm sure there are a lot of people in your life that care a lot". I give you props for caring & having good intentions.

Maybe he's just an elderly troll? Kind of seems like a reversal of roles to me, like if a young woman (don't know if OP is male or female, so I'll just go with female) were to complain about no one caring, and an older person said they cared even though they just met them, I could seem them reacting in the same sort of way (minus the cane). Or he's just a cynical asshole.
