Thanksgiving
Questions about your love life, a burnt turkey and the cousin who knows everything: Thanksgiving, a contact sport.
Today, I found out my wife is pregnant. The problem is she convinced me to get a vasectomy two years ago. FML
Today, five years after the birth of our last child, my husband still hasn't gotten the vasectomy he swore he would get. He wouldn't let me get my tubes tied, because it was "the least he could do," but when I ask about it, I'm a nag. FML
Today, I had emergency surgery to remove my fallopian tubes. I'm one of the 0.5% of people who get pregnant after having their tubes tied. FML
Today, I explained to my boyfriend that I want to get my tubes tied, because I don’t want kids and can’t stand the fear of getting pregnant by accident, despite contraception, which has happened before. He summarized: “So, the main point is to preserve your fertility, right?” Wrong. FML
Today, I finally had my doctor's appointment to get my tubes tied. I've been waiting for 2 years. Instead, I found out that my birth control failed and I'm pregnant. FML
Today, my wife kicked me out because I had a vasectomy behind her back. I'm 45 and we have five kids, three of whom have already left the nest. FML
Today, I took my daughter to the hospital for a few tests, and it turns out that she's pregnant. She has always said that she doesn't want kids, but I hoped that already being pregnant might change her mind. She called to schedule an abortion during the drive back home. FML
Today, I found out that my wife of 5 years has decided to change everything: her job, clothes, hair style, car, and me. FML
Today, my wife and I have a perfect life together, nice house, nice cars, fun hobbies, fun holidays, love each other, lots of sex and so on. After 12 years of marital bliss, she wants to ruin all that by having a baby, and has even threatened divorce. FML
Today, my wife and I have been fighting, and she's threatening divorce. Why? Because I don't want to have a second kid. We cannot afford another one. FML

That five year plan - Was it your plan or was it something that you both decided on? Regardless of “the plan” though, sometimes people change their minds. Maybe wife has some good reasons to not want to have kids. Bear in mind that these years of the COVID pandemic have been unusual and stressful to say the least. I suggest having a non-confrontational heart to heart talk with her when you both feel up to the discussion. Find out how she feels about children and your future. Then once you understand her feelings and reasons on the subject, think long and carefully about the next step. I understand sometimes the desire to have children is a big deal to some people. Adoption is an option, but “mom” will still be stuck being a mom so that may not be a viable option in this case.

The Five-Year Plan? Who are you? Chairman Mao? Maybe she'd prefer a Cultural Revolution or a Long March Forward.

Unfortunately relationships where one or both partners lie about or change their minds about kids are common. Basically you have three options. 1. Find a way to talk about it and work out a middle ground. 2. Live with her choice because you would rather have her than kids or 3. Divorce her and move on and find someone who shares your desire for kids. There’s risk in all three however, especially if she’s thinking twice about kids because she’s in doubt about your relationship. But if it’s a dealbreaker for you and she’s set on it, moving on now will be easier with you having more time to potentially find what you are looking for.
