Today, I was informed that the company I work for has been taken over by the previous company I worked for. I left that company with a burn-out, after years of 60-75 hour weeks, so I'll soon be working for them again in the exact same department I so happily left behind last year. FML
Today, the company I work for is now under new ownership. Somehow, this set off a series of events that resulted in the best boss I've ever had being effectively fired. I'm badly disabled, and she was the only thing stopping me from experiencing rampant ableism at work. I may be jobless again very soon. FML
Today, I was fired for actively seeking employment with another company. Because of having just been fired, the other company will no longer give me the time of day. FML
Today, I got fired after three days at my new job. They told me it was because of downsizing. They were still interviewing people and had a help wanted sign in the window. FML
Today, after nearly eight months of unemployment, I started a great new job. After seven and a half hours of work, my new boss comes up to tell me what a great job I was doing, but that he somehow forgot to clear the new hire with the company owner, so I'm fired. Hello, unemployment... again. FML
Today, I was fired for the second time in as many days. I received a letter notifying me that I would no longer be working for the company, effective immediately. When I did not attend work the next day, I received a phone call firing me for not turning up. FML
Today, my boss thanked me for all my hard work and promised me a raise and a promotion. Shortly thereafter, she sent out a memo announcing she'd sold the company. The new owner immediately came in to "restructure." I got demoted. FML
Today, I got fired from my job. I worked for my parents. FML
Today, my boss was fired by the board. A few days ago, he dropped several strong hints that he was going to promote me soon. FML
Today, my old company merged with a new one. I was calling our old clients, and ended up speaking with a reporter who was investigating our company for fraud. I now have a meeting with the CEO tomorrow morning. I just started. FML

Actually that's not true, I learned in HR class that you must provide a reasonable cause in order to fire some one or they can sue you. Now, as to what is defined as "reasonable cause" is where it gets sketchy.

It really does depend. Some company's have a contract they just about force you to sign to get the job. The one I signed was somewhere along the lines of "the economy is shitty so we can fire you for whatever reason if you get this job". OP is out of luck if this applies :/

When I worked at Banana Republic I had to many forms, one of which that stated I can be fired without cause. They do thus a lot now. OP could be in that situation.

35 - That's not true for all workers. As an employee under contract, yes they would have to provide probable cause, but as he said if the worker is an "at will employee" they can be fired at any time. "At will employees" in the same light can quit for no reason without a two week notice.

Actually in an at will state they can just fire you. Unless you work at a school or government , or union job . We normally just tell them it's not working out and we are terminating their employment
