Today, I came home to find two letters from a publishing house that I'd submitted my manuscript to. The first was congratulatory, stating that my book had been accepted for publishing. The second was apologetic, stating that the first letter had been intended for someone else. FML

Today, I finally got a phone call from a publisher saying they would publish the book I'd written. I'd gotten loads of rejection letters, so I was so excited. Until I realized it was my dad, feeling sorry for me. FML
Today, I was reminded that I'd submitted a short story to a writing competition months ago when I got an email saying I'd won second place. I excitedly forwarded it to friends and family. A few minutes later, another email arrived, explaining they'd contacted the wrong person. My celebration lasted exactly eleven minutes. FML
Today, I excitedly told my brother I submitted a short story for a competition for the first time ever. His reply? "Congrats. I guess the first letter of rejection is a special occasion." Gee, thanks for that reality check. FML
Today, after working on my novel for two years, I found out that another book has recently been published with an almost identical plot. I was going to submit it to a publisher in two days. FML
Today, I was excited to receive a rejection letter, because this was the first company to even acknowledge that I sent them a resume. FML
Today, I was accepted to the college of my dreams. Then I checked the address. Turns out, the letter was meant for my neighbor. I was actually denied. FML
Today, I received an email from my boss, with congratulations, announcing my promotion. I worked hard last year, so I was excited to hear this and replied with gratitude. He texted me and apologized for misunderstanding as this email was sent by mistake, and it was my coworker who actually got promoted. FML
Today, I got 3 different rejection letters mailed to me from the same college. FML
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Today, I gave the guy I've been seeing a copy of my newly published book, because I know he loves writing. He started reading and commented on how amazing it was. Then he gave it back. He didn't realize it was a gift. My awkward self didn't correct him. I'd written him a sweet letter inside. FML

It kinda reminds me about the UC system **** up here in Cali a couple of years ago, where they sent out acceptance letters to the students who were rejected. :(

At least you have written a book, well done! Probably only about 1% of all people will write a book in their life time. Publish it online. Good luck!!

Just imagine all of the poorly written erotic vampire fiction they get sent in... I don't mind the genre, but every 13 year old scene girl from San Fransisco to London thinks they can write it.

Oh my, I'm so sorry. Too bad you didn't read the letters the other way round. When one is as joyful as you probably were after reading letter number one, the let down and disappointment must have been twice as bad :-(

You can always publish on with amazon. Your book will get published (even if just as an ebook) and you'll get 70 percent of profits.

OP wouldn't have been let down so hard had he opened the rejection first. Instead he got his hopes up and then crushed.
