Today, I found out the electric bill I have been paying was on my old house. I found this out when they shut off the power to my house. FML

Today, I had a really good day out just to come home right before the electricity company closed for the day, to find out my payment hadn’t gone through and they'd turned it off. FML
Today, I found out my roommate has been cheating me out of hundreds of dollars when I finally obtained records of the past year's electric bills, which are in her name. FML
Today, my power company notified me that one of the payments my husband and I sent last week for our overdue bill had bounced. FML
Today, I found out that the electricity company can just show up unannounced and cut off my power, but cannot find the meter for a whole 10 days to switch it on again. It's currently dark and 7°C in my bedroom. FML
Today, I received a bill for damage to my old apartment. The same damage caused by the maintenance guy when he came to fix the pipes about a week before I left. FML
Today, the city shut off our water, because they said we didn't pay the bill. Turns out, it was sitting on their desk the whole time. I guess sending someone out to turn off our water was easier than checking to see if we'd actually paid the bill. FML
Today, we finally got our first electricity bill for our new flat. I was shocked to see that we had used £60 worth of electricity in 6 weeks. Then I noticed that it was only an estimate, and that we could read the meter ourselves to correct the amount. We now have to pay nearly £400. FML
Today, I got l disconnect notices for both my water and my electric. After looking over my budget, I realized that I can only pay for one until next month. FML
Today, I finally got my paycheck that I could enjoy $300 for myself after taking care of my bills with so many other ones. Then, I find out that the water was shut off, which is supposed to be my roommate's responsibility. Apparently, he has not paid it in months, and they want $288. FML
Today, I was overjoyed when someone finally came to my house to get the electricity back up and running. All that was changed to dismay upon finding out they first needed to find a tree trimming and removal service to clean up all the fallen branches on the power lines. FML

Agreed with #1. Usually you have to let them know that you're moving so that they can turn on the power at your new place. On the bill, it should usually list the address of the residence it's for. To avoid this when I was paying my electricity online, I simply renamed each new place. I had electricity in my name at 5 different places in San Diego....when I tranferred to a new one, they always shut the power off at the last one. Im just very confused as to how this could happen.

It is. The bill is sent to the person holding the account. When you move, you have to let the electric company know so they cancel the bill to the old address and bill you for the new one. OP probably changed the mailing address, but not the address that's billed. I've done it for my parents since I was 9. all 3 times we've moved since. It's not difficult at all. OP's just stupid for not knowing how to do things correctly.

Today, I had to pay my first electric bill. I had a discussion with my dog, and we both agreed that the ghost in the house provided us with our electricity, contrary to what my kid thought. The stress caused my skin to break out, and I was forced to buy acne cream. FML

it's possible the electric co. bills OP's bank account directly. if that's the case, FYL cuz the electric co. robbed yo ass =p kinda makes you wonder why the people in your old house didnt say anything about that, but then again there are assholes everywhere.

It's possible OP didn't get any bills to read, but then it still means he/she didn't contact the electricity company to tell them he/she was moving to a different house. You can't expect the electricity company to just *know* that.
