Today I was studying for a final when I noticed all I had was a blue highlighter. I decided to drive to the store to get a yellow one, and on the way i got $200 worth of traffic tickets for not stopping at a stop sign. So, I basically spent $200 because I prefer yellow highlighters over blue. FML

That is a fucked up idea of causality. You got a ticket because you failed to obey the law, the highlighters had nothing to do with it.
Maybe you should stop at stop signs? It's not like you needed the highlighters to save a life or something.
Today, I went to fmylife.com to read about other people's screwed up lives only to find that half of the stories were fake and the other half people doing highly stupid things trying to get sympathy from internet strangers. FML
Next time, just use the damn blue highlighter! The words will still show. You are not gonna die from lack of yellow highlighter.

In Jersey I got a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign and it was only $80 so that sucks, but still, just use the blue highlighter.
If you prefer yellow highlighters over blue, then why wouldn't you keep a yellow one at your house, and why would you even have a blue one in the first place.
It's not the highlighters fault you ran a stop sign. It's yours. You running the stop sign has nothing to do with the highlights. That's just you being a careless drive.

You shouldn't even have drivers license! You failed to stop at 2!!! Stop signs. How did you get your license in a first place? The test didn't involve any road signs?
$200 is pretty steep for not stopping at a stop light. If this is true, it seems like you did some other things you tactfully omitted.

What difference does it make if there was no other car on the road? You still have to stop at a stop sign regardless.
And OP, I feel bad for you that you have to pay such a hefty fine, but perhaps next time when you see a giant red sign that says STOP, you'll actually stop.
Okay... maybe I'm just missing the point, but I think you deserved that simply because you thought it would be a good idea to:
1) stop studying
2) get into your car
3) waste gas
4) go to the store just to buy a highlighter
5) run a stop sign
instead of just using the damn blue highlighter.
Wow... and you're probably gonna fail your next test too because you'll be in court for the ticket.

The only way the yellow highlighter caused you to get a ticket is if it tied you up, shoved you in the trunk, and then took your car for a joyride.

You did not pay $200 for a hilighter. You paid $200 for recklessy endangering lives. You didn't only put your own dumb ass in harm's way, but anyone else's who may have happened by. When you can rise above the laws of physics, feel free to ignore traffic controls. Until then, you should know that the last person who had an accident with me because they were too "important" to follow the rules was uninjured by the accident but not so lucky in the aftermath.
