Today, I finally got the courage to tell my parents that I'm gay. My mom said "Yeah, we know." When I asked how they knew, my dad, without looking up from the tv, said, "We've been monitoring your Internet history." FML

Major invasion of your privacy, sure. But at least they didn't freak out and were totally fine about it. Plus, they waited until you were ready to tell them rather than confront you when they figured it out through snooping...gotta give them credit for that!

If either parent knows what he's doing, the OP could have been tracked on the router instead of the PC, and he wouldn't have been able to get to the history to erase it.

Yeah, it's not that bad. They didn't seem to really care, when a lot of parents would disown their kids for being gay. And, most parents monitor their kids' internet usage, that's what parents do. At least they didn't put on one of those programs to block ****, so they must ALSO be okay with you looking at ****! You're lucky, really!

Why not? Accessing a network from the inside is very easy. It's not like it's impossible for him to copy another device's name and MAC address on the network or encrypt his traffic. I suppose it wouldn't matter (doesn't now anyway) if the OP is computer illiterate.

no. incognito mode will not block that. It merely deletes records off the PC itself. It doesn't delete the internet traffic logs off the router.

#154 what people are trying to say is that the computer is not being monitored. it's like with texting you can delete the texts off your phone but they're still stored by the phone company. Using this example his parents are monitoring his history through the router (the information from the phone company in my example) instead of through his computer (or phone in my example)

Even if he did delete the history on the computer, it would still be saved on the router (the part that connects all te computers in the house with the Internet). and unless he knows the password to that which is very unlikely he wouldn't be able to delete that history

At least they didn't flip out. How is it an FML? Your parents still love and care for you, if they had kicked you out or something, THEN, it would've been an FML. It's only a YDI cause you didn't clear your history.

I wonder how long it'll be before someone comments that the OP deserves it for being gay? Won't be long... Er anyway, it's not exactly a problem. It made it A LOT easier for you to come out, didn't it? It's still an annoying breach of privacy. I really hate it when my parents are all nosey about my internet activity. Still, it worked out better for you!
