Urine is actually a fairly clean substance. It doesn't carry that many germs unless you have a bladder infection. We think it's gross because we're evolutionarily programmed to avoid urine so we don't drink it and put the chemicals we were trying to get rid of back into our bodies.

I can't say I do it regularly, or I wouldn't be really grossed out if this happened to me, but all of you saying peeing in the shower is horrible and gross and no one does that, you're ignorant fucks trying to sound like you know what you're talking about and failing. I don't think any of you can honestly say you've never peed in the shower before. Some facts:
1. Toilet water and shower water both go to the same place, and get filtered the same way.
2. It's stupid to get out of the shower sopping wet and freezing cold to use the toilet. You end up getting your whole bathroom wet, and your toilet, and you waste sooooo much water every time you flush. Not to mention the water you waste when if you leave the shower running during the whole ordeal. And for girls, you end up wasting toilet paper too. I would laugh at anyone dumb enough to do this...needing to defaecate would be a reason to get out, not simply needing to pee.
3. Yes you can pee before your shower, but what if you don't need to till you get in? And the hot, running water makes it difficult to hold it in till the end of your shower.
4. PEE IS STERILE. You are NOT spreading germs in your shower if you pee. If anything, you are cleaning it. The shower water, soap, shampoo, etc washes all traces of it down the drain anyway. #134 (darkmis1), you have a point, but it would only be spreading the infection IF IT WASN'T GETTING WASHED DOWN. Remember that it's not like someone is just getting in the shower and peeing and letting the pee sit there, it's like the running water from the rest of your shower IS FLUSHING IT DOWN the drain. Even MORE thoroughly than a toilet would, because there's more water. It would only be gathering bacteria if it was sitting around, much like sweat does. In many ways, they're the same thing...they're both made from urea.
5. Pee, because of how sterile it is, is even used to cure infections sometimes. Ancient Romans used to WASH their togas in it. Andy Warhol used it to oxidize copper in some of his paintings. We've only been trained to think it's disgusting, but most people don't know anything about it. Poop goes in the toilet because it's germy...pee goes in any drain where it will be flushed down. Or pretty much anywhere you walk outside...dogs pee all over the place, if you think pee so gross, just think about that next time you want to sit on grass in a park.
6. The OP's girlfriend can simply wash her dress, and all traces of the urine will be gone, unless it was a type of fabric that gets ruined by water. LOTS of people pee in the shower, because it's not as gross as all you ignorant people think it is. Therefore, I don't believe this FML is a YDI, because it was his girlfriend who surprised him in the shower, which is stupid and something no one should be subjected to.
So now you know why peeing in the shower is not nearly as gross as most of you make it out to be.

I'm a girl, and I don't really think peeing in the shower is that gross, so long as it's your own shower. If it's a dorm shower, or a friend's shower, that's pretty disgusting, but what you want to do in your own shower is your business (no pun intended). The only place I can think of where there is a separate system for waste water and drain water is on ships, such as cruise ships. So just don't pee in the shower on ships.

And for everyone saying that showers weren't meant to be peed in: you're right, they weren't, but it's not stupid to pee in the shower if you're already in there. How many people do you know who sit in their room watching TV, realize they have to pee, and just run and jump in the shower to do it? None, because EVERYONE knows toilets are meant for that, and they do use them properly IF IT'S CONVENIENT. Peeing in the shower is convenient, not lazy and gross. If you're already in there, with running water and soap, why not just pee if you have to? It's not like that's the first place people go when they've got to use the restroom.

I don't understand why peeing in the toilet, where the water splashes back out onto your shoes and the floor, which I'm SURE you don't wipe up every time, is LESS gross than peeing in the shower where it gets instantly washed down the drain. I still don't understand why it's okay to pee in water over HERE but not okay to pee in water over THERE, when over THERE, the pee gets immediately washed away.
That's just stupid. You all fail.
I can sort of understand why a woman would be grossed out from peeing in the shower, since it can just run down their leg.. but guys? Come on, you should know as well as any other man to aim at the end zone. Unless you sit down to pee, that is.
Either way, it gets washed down in seconds. It's not like people just walk up to the shower and take a piss instead of using a toilet.
She could have startled you, made you slip and fall, seriously injuring yourself! Getting peed on is just her learning a lesson. Thanks for saving water.

So let me ty and figure this out... Peeing in the shower is bad because it's "gross" right? Alright. But it leaves traces of urine in the shower? Did you know someone how pissed on the ceiling? When you pee in the shower it obeys the laws of gravity and goes down, where the water is and the water brings it into the sewers. I don't see the issue, that like complaining that people sit down to take a shit because their butt cheeks touch the toilet and they don't consider the others that may use the toilet.
