Today, at the dentist, I was getting my teeth cleaned. Looking up at his nose, I saw runny snot dripping onto his lip. I tried to slowly move away. He told me "Stop!" The movement of his lips caused the snot to fall right into my mouth. FML

yeah this is fake.....all dentists and dental hygenests are required to wear face masks that cover their mouths. Unless it dripped directly from his nose to your mouth.....I'm thinking this is made up.

My hygienists have always worn a mask, but sometimes my dentist won't and I've been going to the same place since I was five. :/ Though the last few times I asked him to wear one and he did.

number 48 - if this story is true, then her dentist is in danger of getting his license revoked. haven't you ever been to the dentist? They are required by law to wear dental hygenist masks. Unless the OP has x-ray vision she could have never seen this happen
#49-- depending on where you are. at my sister's orthodontist's, the dr never wears masks, just the nurses. and they don't wear masks when doing consults or when sterilizing things, either. it depends on where you live and what kind of treatment it is...
but this dude NEEDS to wear a mask. pronto.

I agree with #52. Dentists SHOULD wear masks, but not all of them are required to. Those who actually operate IN your mouth actually wear the masks. Mainly the dentists'/orthodontists' assistants who do most of the labor. Actual doctors don't usually wear masks when they are just checking the progress of their patient. But, I agree, totally nasty and they should be required to wear a mask at all times.

I'm well aware there may be dentists who are "old school" and dont always follow universal precautions, and also dentists all have to learn to clean teeth and some choose to do so, even if most have hygienists in practice... However my biggest issue with this story is the unlikelihood that a dentist's nose would be positioned over a patient's mouth. Dentists are seated behind a patient, and it would require an abnormal posture to be in the position for this to happen the way it is described

Dentists may not be required to wear masks, but you should never patronize one that doesn't (when working in your mouth, that is).
the dentist I go to, I get a cleaning first, they dont use a mask. Then the main dentist dude comes in to check for cavaties etc, he wears a mask tho
