Today, I discovered that my freezer had died when I saw the contents oozing out the bottom. The now-full trash can won't be picked up for another 6 days, and the high temperatures are supposed to be in the 100s all week. FML

Today, while clearing out my kitchen, I discovered a Tupperware container that'd been forgotten for so long it'd developed its own ecosystem. When I opened it, a funky smell engulfed the kitchen, and I realized I had unintentionally created a new form of life. I promptly closed the container, then put it in the freezer in the hope of killing whatever it is. FML

Oh my gosh, that sucks! I'm sorry. I had a freezer/fridge die while I was on vacation once. Came back after 8 days away...I know the feels. Baking soda and vinegar to scrub the rotten fridge out!

What he/she did wrong was they had to have left the freezer unchecked for days at a time. A Freezer, even in 100+ degree temps, will hold the cold for a few days before things start to melt and ooze out like that. OPs negligence is why they deserve it.

I'd recommend loading it into your car or whatever and taking it to the dump yourself. You'll be dealing with animals, flies, maggots, and the smell otherwise. Not to mention if you live near any neighbors they could get upset about the smell and it could cause some friction between you. Alternatively, many trash companies are willing to come by the house and grab trash earlier if you are willing to pay for it.

Loading it in a car? A truck bed, maybe. But, a car?! If it leaks then you have a rotten smelling car.

Double bag it, pour bleach over the bags, then use a bungee cord to keep the lid on and dissuade animals. That's what I used to do in these instances and I never had a problem.

You might be able to get your waste disposal company to make an exception- trying calling and asking. It may be more of a small city thing, but it won't hurt to ask.

After this is all over, baking soda and vinegar are your friends. Trust me. That trash can will never be the same. I'd also just leave the can at the end of your driveway for the time being. Pretend it doesn't exist for a week. Be strong!

You could try for the more smellier items putting them in an old container or garbage bag with maybe sawdust or some other absorbent material dosed with pine oil or baking soda or something else to mask the smell.
