If it's true, that sucks, but you should be able to get your money back. However, I recall seeing one shortly after the death of a certain king of pop where the person and their brother spent 3k to send their parents to England for the European Tour, this one is posted almost exactly like it.
LOL #50
No, OP deserves it for not weekly checking up on her parent's romantic status. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
(im kidding. I clicked YLIF.)
yea that sucks, especially after 50 years......

Why would you spend that much, dumbass? It's just like the guy who paid for half of his mom's wedding. You set your life up to be fucked.

Maybe she spent that much because she appreciates all her parents have done for her. Her parents have spent waaaayy more than 5K on her throught her lifetime...dontcha think?
I love how people on this site manage to make something extremely nice into a bad thing. /sarcasm.
Fuck that, her parents gave her life and raised her, and she's showing some gratitude...How is that stupid?

YDI for spending that much money on your parents.

You are an idiot. That is all.

Oh boo fuckin' hoo.
Get your money back.
Why would you even spend that much on your parents anyway.
Seriously.
Dumbass.
Ummm, for the very same reason their parents spent hundreds of thousands of dollars raising them: love. You're a fucking ungrateful asshole.

Uhm fuck yeah I am sweetie.
I don't know anyone who would spend a combined ten thousand dollars on their parents. Guess you must really love them. What was it? Trip to Paris?
READ the thing. they spent a total of 10,000$ on the PARTY and probably present.
um ... the kids spent that much because they love and appreciate their parents. parents have spent a hell lot more than that. my mom probably spends with my sister and at at least more than 10,000$ a YEAR.
FYL.
Whatever happened to the thought that "money can't buy happiness?" js(:
I mean, sure, they spent a lot of money raising you,
but paying them back with a party that much isn't necessary.
You pay them back by having a great life because of how they raised you hahahaahahah.
It says brotherS, so there was probably more than one brother, so there was probably more than 10,000 dollars...damn, that sucks
the likelihood of a couple getting divorced after 50 years is pretty slim......
Considering it's their 50th Anniversary, they both have to be in their 70's... why on earth would you want to divorce then anymore? Seems so pointless that I almost believe this is a fake, but I guess it can always happen.
As for the people saying she deserves it for spending so much money, wouldn't you as well after 50 years? It's called respecting your parents and all they did for you. Of course valid excuse if you have shitty parents,
Eitherway, FYL.

How about F Their Lives, being that they're the ones going through a divorce after fifty years of marriage? If this is indeed what's actually happening, then just go get your money back for as much of the stuff as you can and then be there for your parents during this hard time instead of complaining about your money.
This. If they are really getting divorced, what right do you have to bitch and moan about being out $5000? Yes, that is a lot of money to most people, but it's just money.
I can't actually think of how you could go about spending $10000 for a party.
oh emm gee!! that really sucks. I feel bad about the money, but mainly ur parents separating!!!!!!!
never again spell out omg like that. ever. get off the internet and go play pokemon 12 yr old
Get over the money, and be there for your parents.
You're American... sue them to get your money back?
what does being American have to do with suing??
'Cause Americans have a reputation for suing anyone over anything? lol
lol... thanks wolfy, at least someone got my joke!
Who gets a divorce after 50 years?
I'm calling fake.
To everyone who said YDI for spend slot of money,
You parents probley spend 10-20 times as much to keep you alive, so respect them.
"brothers and I" meaning 15k+. Yes, your parents spent more than that on growing up, but that's over the course of 18+ years. If my siblings and I spent 15k on my parents' anniversary, they'd beat us dead (not joking) 15k on single anniversary is foolish, that or they're really loaded. Also, kindness doesn't = smart. ie. letting a stranger borrow your car.
Your parents are getting divorced and you're mad about the money you spent on them?
I'd be too upset that my parents were getting a divorce after 50 YEARS of marriage to care about money.
A lot of people get divorced after 50 years. Couples find themselves alone and unoccupied, in each other's face all day, every day. It gets stressful and they just can't deal with each other anymore. I've seen old couples that have grown to hate each other ever since they retired and their kids moved away, so don't call bullshit on something you know nothing about.
OP: FYL for your parents getting divorced. Oh and the money :)
Okay, it sucks that they got divorced. And to all the people saying that they wasted money on their parents, well their parents kind of gave them the sweet gift of life and this is a 50th anniversary, so I think what they did was nice.
Once again, too bad they got divorced...
I would be pissed about the money too, not at them but at the situation...Of course it's a good thing for people to do this for their parents after being supported over the years, but they do have a right to be upset because the money & planning is now for nothing. Think of it this way, if they weren't getting divorced and took the trip, the FML wouldn't be here, they'd be happy about it.
Best of luck to you and your parents. After 50 years it's almost hard to believe...happens though
Oh that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. FYL for sure.
im calling fucking fake on this
Wait a second--your brothers also spent $5,000 each? More than $10,000 dollars for a party? If you're able to spend that much for a party, why are you worried about money? Especially when your parents are divorcing...and after 50 years? Yeah this is bullshit.
FYL cause your parents called you to tell you they're getting a divorce. what ever happened to the sit down "talk"?
#28 - On 07/05/2009 at 9:09pm by meeeep
Ugh, if I ever live close enough to either of my parents for a "sit down talk" on any given day when I'm 45~ years old, then REALLY FML.
Lame... I live far away from my parents & I miss them a lot. I WISH I lived close enough for a sit down talk on any given day!!
Considering anyone who has parents who have been married for 50 years is probably well between the age of 35-50, 5,000 dollars is not their life savings or anything, and is an incredibly nice thing for two grown children to do for their parents.
Are all you people so angsty and angry that you would never consider paying for a trip for your parent(s) that they've always dreamed of doing, but were unable to because they spent 18+ years and hundreds of thousands of dollars raising you?
I completely agree. For my parents' 50th I expect to throw as elaborate of a party/trip as the OP. Most of the posters on here complaining are probably 14 year-olds with no perspective, or really selfish adults- in which case, their parents probably deserve it for raising ungrateful children.
ahh. nothing better than money well spent!

You guys realize that Brothers means over $10,000?
#32 - On 07/05/2009 at 9:34pm by RJB
Damn, that sucks.
Maybe you guys could just have a party of your own?
this is not fake (retirement can cause severe brain damage to some old persons who then think the world is theirs and go party, so they divorce.. well who cares they d wha they want to).
FYL because the op and his/her brothers spent a lot of money and time planning something special (a nice trip somewhere i guess), and then find out, just after reserving everything and paying for everything, that it's not going to happen.
But then, YDI for not knowing your parent's couple was going to break.

After 50 years of getting to know each other, I'm sure they can handle each other for one big night from their kids... and I'm sure that they must be happy to be rid of each other after 50 years. My advice: have a DIVORCING PARTY!
They'll appreciate your support and the fact that you guys went through such trouble to celebrate a family accomplishment (originally the marriage). Who knows, after celebrating such a long, and undoubtedly rich, life together, perhaps they'll discover that there is more love left. If not, they'll have one hell of a kick-off to their divorce!
(It seems to me that communication is a huge 'opportunity' in your family. Spill the beans and tell your parents your plans!)
You should try to get your money back.
Haha, divorcing party? That's terrible 39.
Anywho, well aside from the divorcing party idea, think of it maybe as a way for the to reconnect and realize they love each other?
Just a thought
Invite your friends and make your own party
Are you people serious asking why they would spend that much on their parents? for one thing they're probably grateful for all the things they did for them and put up with when they were younger, but also because 50 years is a crazy long amount of time to spend with one person and I'd deserves that kind if reception. Some people are just fuckfaces
FYL if this is true because that really sucks
lastly, just because it sounds similiar to another FML doesn't mean it isn't true. don't jump to conclusions so fast.
that does suck, but $10,000?! WTF?!
Why would anyone get divorced after being together for 49 years? Seems fishy to me... FYL if it's true though.
That's the same FML as one right after MJ's death with a couple words changed. Sad...
10 grand?! good lord, what were you getting for them?! I say you and your brother take their gift instead.
Uh, guys, it says brothers. that means 15 grand, minimum.
If you can't get your money back then just re-theme the party and have a good time.
they're getting divorced at like, 70? thats retarded. that puts you at like, mid 40's: two questions: why are you on FML, and shouldn't you be more upset that your parents are divorcing than that you are loosing money? i dont think i believe this story.
I agree - I can't believe that your parents have been together for nearly 50 years and now decide to divorce, and the thing you decide to complain about is how much money you're losing.
Im sorry man. this is truly an FML
redo the guest list and have a hell of a party!!!
sorry bout your folks though =/
Don't matter how much her parents spent on her in her life time....wut kind of party costs 10,000.00? shoo invite me! FYL though....after 50 years mite as well call that a wrap n jus die together.
That sucks. Who gets a divorce after being married 49 years?
damn yo..they have almost been living together for 50 years..talk them out of it..it would be worth nothing to separate now
# 3 shut the FUCK up. ok. y does he deserve it. fuck u. I don't give a shit if ur life sucks or if ur an orphan ok so just shut the fuck up. the same thong Is gonna happn to u. o ya... shut the FUCK UP!!!! u FUCKIN BITCH. I HATE EVRYONE WHO PUT YDI
this is fake post it's wrote so that it sounds like maybe 18-25 yr old person?? with 70 yr old parents?? were would they get thousands to spend on them......and if they were used to spending this type of $$ they prob wouldn't bitch about a busted party.....this post is FAKE.....
