Man or woman?

Today, my 5 year old daughter figured out how to use the microwave, microwaving my brand new 3G iphone. It was completely wrecked. So was the microwave. FML

^This. YDI for leaving a 5 year old unattended, especially with an expensive phone!

Seconded

#76 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:04pm by Nesyaj0

Few things are really "out of reach" with kids, lol.
I used to be able to climb out of my crib as soon at a little older than 1 when i started walking, I'm sure a five year old can make the microwave not out of reach anymore.

#94 - On 11/01/2009 at 9:05pm by dudeitsdanny

YDI for conforming and buying an iPhone.

#2 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:33am by emilysanftwsom

Yeah they can buy what they want if they can afford it I guess... I just think, if you can afford to do that, why not put the money to better use?

#78 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:57pm by emilysanftwsom

Wanna destroy your microwave!?! There's an app for that. =)

#5 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:46am by moonlight_daze

Seems like she's been watching too much "Is It a Good Idea to Microwave This?" I guess the answer was, "Yes!"

#6 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:48am by Bruce9707

That does suck. But one has to wonder how much you cared about said items, if they were kept within easy reach of a five year old...?

#7 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:48am by The_Advice_Guy

You guys really understimate five-year-olds. THEY'RE VICIOUS! D:

lolz But seriously, at five a kid can do alot, we aren't talking toddlers at this point.

#8 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:50am by jchansfan

lol conforming and buying an iPhone...go mate with a tree Janis Joplin.

#9 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:56am by PublicEnemy961

That's not cool. I'd die if that happened to my itouch. FYL D:

#11 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:21am by arielhoee

How exactly did that wreak the microwave?

#12 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:26am by NathanKett

If you put tin foil, electronics, etc. in the microwave, it'll explode usually. o_O

#14 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:29am by arielhoee

omg. damn iPhone. what the he'll is wreak?

#13 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:28am by NathanKett

OMFG. he'll? iPhone you fail me.

#15 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:30am by NathanKett

YDI for having both your Iphone and microwave in reach for a 5 year old...

#16 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:45am by Musje

And if the kid used a chair to reach the microave, it's also the OP's fault for leaving a chair on his carpet?

#71 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:40pm by TheTragicReturn

LIES! On Is It a Good Idea To Micowave This, they microwaved an iphone and the iphone was destroyed, but the microwave wasn't! XD

#17 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:50am by Exilis

I'm sure the results would vary based on the microwave in question.

OP, why is your microwave within reaching distance of your 5 year old??

#27 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:14am by studentwoes

I love that show! But microwaves vary, and maybe she didn't do it like how they did it?
Pretty sure they're in a controlled environment.

And I can say I've destroyed a microwave with just foil.

#28 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:18am by redbluegreen

Ydi for calling the iPhone 3G "3G iPhone"

#18 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:51am by ihatemen111

yeah seriously, and why didn't he get the 3GS anyway? pffft.

#20 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:58am by papertigers

7 years later she will be useing your phone for the vibration ..

#19 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:56am by Wet_Dream

Really? At twelve? Either you're sick or you don't do math very well.

#36 - On 10/31/2009 at 11:14am by dspadres

You're joking, right? When I was 12, I masturbated constantly. Given that I was a male, but I hardly think it matters. When you first start finding that rubbing your genitals feels good, you tend to start doing it. Some kids do it at even YOUNGER ages than 12 - or even 10, for that matter. Unless you're a batshit insane conservative, you should be able to admit that it's normal.

Anyways, OP you deserve it fully. You deserve it for not only spending $500 on a PHONE, but leaving it in reach of your child, leaving a toddler unattended, leaving the microwave in reach, and teaching your kid not to do shit like that.

#48 - On 10/31/2009 at 1:07pm by myballs

you look like a virgin to me..

#70 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:34pm by Wet_Dream

Umm..
Actually, I have a 3GS,
and it was definitely not $500.
Exactly $212.00 with tax.
So, you make it sound like the iphone is this
crazy priced phone that no one can get.
It's really the price of any regular phone.
Dummie.

O.o

#101 - On 11/11/2009 at 5:48pm by Taravampire

I‘m just sorry for your iPhone....

kick her in the face

#22 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:28am by rosierosierosie

YDI, I wouldn't be that worried about the iPhone if I were you, she could have burned herself or something, keep an eye on her the next time.

#24 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:41am by dessaye

She must be a slow child because my baby bro is 5,

#25 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:54am by justmyluck1212

As long as she's ok you can get more stuff cause microwaves can explode not to mention the iPhone

#26 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:07am by tropicthunder

Be thankful that she's alright. Come to think of it, how she could have access to the microwave is beyond me. That should be way out of reach for a kid unless she's uncannily tall for her age. On the other hand, if you couldn't hear her stacking books precariously or dragging something to the counter to reach the microwave, then YDI.

#29 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:21am by blastvortex

Kill the fucking kid. I hate them, they're morons.

#30 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:28am by Von_Mal

Moron. You were also a kid once. How would you feel if your parents said the same thing?

#85 - On 11/01/2009 at 4:07am by graaar

nooooooooooooo not the iPhone!!!! the poor thing I would be heartbroken

#31 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:28am by kile88

she's five an dosnt know any better.

#32 - On 10/31/2009 at 10:17am by Zeeby

The trick to housebreaking your child is to lock them in a small, enclosed area for extended periods of time until the crying ceases and the shallow breathing begins. She'll learn her part pretty fast.

#33 - On 10/31/2009 at 10:19am by mercyFML

I remember when I first learned how to use the microwave. The only other place that I had seen a number pad was the telephone. So I entered my grandparent's phone number when cooking spaghettios. Anyone ever had crispy spaghettios before?

#34 - On 10/31/2009 at 10:46am by RHOPKINS13

lmfao.
after being able to use the microwave since i was 8, when i was 11 i decided to make cheese on toast in the microwave. put it in for 3mins. it burnt a hole in the bread and stunk out the house for a week. ftw.

#39 - On 10/31/2009 at 11:36am by Mauskau

YDI for spending all that money on a stupid phone.

#35 - On 10/31/2009 at 10:58am by RVP23

You should have downloaded the abortion app.

#37 - On 10/31/2009 at 11:16am by dspadres

The only words that came into my head were
"DEATH TO THE IPHONE"

#38 - On 10/31/2009 at 11:26am by Aerianna

Five year old people usually know better. At least she's alright. Too bad about the iPhone though. :(

#41 - On 10/31/2009 at 11:39am by jillz

Children are demons. Dressed in cute little disguises. That's why there's Halloween, kids get to take off their cute costumes and show themselves for the devils they are! [:

#42 - On 10/31/2009 at 11:40am by BellaMuerte

More like a parenting fail. An expensive phone and a microwave (dangerous, by the way) in the reach of a five-year-old? YDI.

#43 - On 10/31/2009 at 12:03pm by DamienTheRabbit

Whats with all the 'Why were the items in reach of a 5 year old' questions? How many children have you been around? If a child wants something they'll figure out a way to reach it including toddlers. They climb, its what they're good at.

#44 - On 10/31/2009 at 12:20pm by Melisaaaa

So true.

#102 - On 11/11/2009 at 5:50pm by Taravampire

I literally can't think of anything worse than this.... lol.

#45 - On 10/31/2009 at 12:23pm by diamondshark

when I was five and I couldn't get something, i would climb on the counter or on a chair.

#46 - On 10/31/2009 at 12:31pm by besad

I bet if you hadn't underestimated her intelligence and explained to her what a microwave does and how it works and set some rules this wouldn't have happened. YDI.

#47 - On 10/31/2009 at 12:36pm by flylikemusic

spank her. take away tv until the iphone and microwave are paid for, then the little shit will think twice about microwaving daddy's stuff.

#49 - On 10/31/2009 at 1:27pm by feari_princess

Yeah, spanking should only be used on girlfriends. ;)

#54 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:12pm by MiseryMan

Oi, what is it with you liberal pussies that are so against punishing children? Do you want to them go running around with no fucking authority and no concept of right and wrong? I don't fancy the idea of a bunch of thugs doing whatever they want because their parents couldn't fucking teach them anything.

#57 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:27pm by myballs

Haha, don't you just love it when politics comes into play in unrelated matters?

#58 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:32pm by shostakovich

What? You're worried about your iPhone than your daughter getting hurt? iPhone explode if it overheats… let alone being microwave. YDI! You need to get your parenting skills check though.

#52 - On 10/31/2009 at 1:53pm by lady_unknown

Guess it wasn't a good idea to microwave it :)

#53 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:08pm by Avenging_Angel

Parenting FAIL: you could have taught her that the microwave is ONLY for food items. But... you didn't.

Keep that little demon away from the genius that throws hairspray into the fireplace!

#55 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:20pm by noshitsherlock

Good job. Leaving a 5 year old unattended with your phone.

#59 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:32pm by sydefx

damn dude

#60 - On 10/31/2009 at 2:52pm by tabrium

...i don't know, shouldn't most five year olds know better?

it just seems like they should KNOW by that age that the microwave is OBVIOUSLY only used for food items. then again...maybe she was just mad at you and wanted revenge XD

#64 - On 10/31/2009 at 3:15pm by theblueone4

The kid can learn to use the microwave, then she can learn about consequences of her actions.
Take away her favorite thing until you can afford a new microwave and phone. And no happy meals for her until then either.

#66 - On 10/31/2009 at 3:43pm by kukopia

i agree with #2 but then again i cant judge the iphone if ive never had one

#67 - On 10/31/2009 at 4:00pm by meezer008

you guys that are saying OMFG GIVE THAT BRAT A SPANKING!!!!!:

spanking does not teach children anything. It is, like that one dude said, just an outlet for the parent's anger.

all it does is teach children that violence is an acceptable way to solve problems.
to whoever said non-violent punishment creates spoiled, uncontrollable thugs:
it doesn't. Not spanking teaches children that there are other ways to solve problems. Last time I checked, 'thugs' were generally violent people. Maybe a result of violent punishments?

to the OP: be more careful/watchful, and take away some privileges. problem solved.

#69 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:01pm by railfan

your kid is hilarious!

#72 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:42pm by pursuethemoment

YDI. Should have got the 3GS.

#73 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:47pm by Bloodknight

ya spanking doesn't teach anything..thats y in my day my dad would use the belt.

#74 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:07pm by masdar

Do you realize how lucky you are to have a child? And how privileged anyone must be who can ever afford a microwave and an iPhone, you know, the orphans in Africa don't have those!

#75 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:41pm by SigneRobertson

Hmm...is anyone else thinking about Jory Caron and Riley McIlwain right now holding a 3G iPhone asking "Is it a good idea to microwave this"?

#77 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:07pm by The_Disturbed

#77 Glad to see I'm not alone! I love that Youtube show!

#89 - On 11/01/2009 at 11:15am by Amortifiedperson

Put something she loves in the microwave.

#79 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:29pm by sex_cauldron

YOU DESERVE IT. What was your daughter doing alone in the kitchen at the age of five? Mothering FAIL. Here's some advice: WATCH YOUR CHILD. People like this chap my a**.

#80 - On 10/31/2009 at 10:25pm by wordgirl

You fail as a mother, first of all, if you have money for a "3G iPhone", you have money to put your child in daycare if your not going to watch her! Seriously, a five year old + a microwave = BOOM! Use your brain, you sucky mom. People like you piss me off, watch your child, she's more important then a microwave, and a iPhone. Really. YDI BIG TIME.

#81 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:20am by Alittlenegetive

Yeah, he's a sucky mom. Good thing he's not one, eh?
And really, this kinda thing can happen while you just pop out to the loo, you realize?

#86 - On 11/01/2009 at 5:40am by Prawn

It's a 3g. It isn't "brand new"

#82 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:37am by cocky

Wow. Everybody saying it shouldn't be in reach of the kid blah blah blah. Daddy has an expensive phone. I'm sure he's told the kid not to touch it. Do kids listen when you say no? No. B/c it looks good they'll mess with it anyways. Microwaves vary and it depends on the setting of a kitchen. High or low, no matter what a kid will find a way there. Not that hard. Toddlers get curious. And you don't know if the OP has told the child to not touch the microwave either so again they don't listen. Stop blaming the OP for what happened. Ppl think 5 yr olds don't know any better when depending on how much knowledge they have and how they're raised, they know alot. They're not stupid. Their minds pick up ALOT at that age. If the man wanted to buy an iPhone it's on him. $500 is stupid but w/e. And once that child gets a job take her paychecks until they equal $500 PLUS tax lol. That'll show em. Sorry bout what happened and ignore the idiots. Shit happens. They can't talk. And I have 2 6 year old brothers and 1 5 year old brother so I know from experience they think they can get away with ANYTHiNG. My brother's spit in my milk after I told him to not mess with it. And that's just a drink. They just don't listen!!

Is It A Good Idea To Microwave An iPhone 3G? XD FYL OP I have a seven year old sis on my part and there is a 7 year age difference between us both. Worst yet, I HATE admitting I'm wrong. When she tries to tell me something that I've said before and was proved wrong I try to tell her that it's not true she continues to argue and then it continues to get worse. It's often gone to physical fighting (Yes I'm 14 fighting with a 7 year old) Just starts with her pushing me and she surprisingly is pretty strong. I push her back, then the hitting and slapping starts and while all that is going on, we're yelling at eachother. Usually, on my side I'm yelling that she is a baby that knows nothing and she is yelling that I'm "the worst sister ever". Don't get me wrong, I love my sis but we almost have NOTHING in common and we have such an age difference we can relate to eachother very well.

#88 - On 11/01/2009 at 11:12am by Amortifiedperson

Isn't there an app for that?

sure for you guys to freaking stupid.

Just saying

#92 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:54pm by smd69

The sad part is, microwaving it ruins the flavor. She should have used the toaster.

Go screw yourself

#103 - On 11/11/2009 at 5:52pm by Taravampire

is it a good idea to microwave an iPhone 3G? your kid found out it's a bad idea.

#105 - On 11/28/2009 at 8:22pm by ranty_nerd

Beat the shit out of your kid, spay yourself and go to parenting classes. Your idiot 5 year old should know better than to screw with the microwave and you should know better than to just leave your expensive electronics laying around.

#106 - On 12/26/2009 at 9:56pm by loari

if your iPhone was fried then what are you useing to wright this story because this is an app and now u can't use this app...
