I'm not really sure how many of you have actually taken a life-drawing class, but here's how it goes. The model usually maintains some position for 20 minutes (if it's a long-term drawing) and then takes a 5-10 minute break. Keeping a boner for 20 minutes isn't that impressive, for those of you who mentioned that. Also, if you see some hot chick staring intently at your naked body, that's gotta be hot. I don't blame the guy for getting a hardon. #64, just for clarification, the students in this type of class are not required to be nude. In fact, that would be awkward and I highly doubt any college would promote a "lets all get naked and sit in a big circle" class. The students ARE however, required to draw a nude model. That's why the OP was naked in a classroom. He was paid to be there and pose nude. I don't know why this concept is so perplexing to non-art/design students.

I thought this was a discussion about a guy that got hard while modeling o_O But if you want to bring girls into this, honestly, it -is- probably worse for a guy. Erect nipples can simply mean the model's cold, and girls are leaking fluids all the time--arousal just makes it flow a little faster. So while the signs of arousal in women are fairly easy to conceal or justify with a reason other than arousal, for a guy, a boner usually only means one thing, which is why it's embarrassing.

I took art classes all through high school, but seeing as my mom put me through a very conservative baptist school, I was caught off guard in my first college drawing class with nude models. No, it wasn't my first time seeing a nude guy, but it caught me off guard when it was a requirement to observe and draw. It was awkward as he was facing me and watching me draw for the first hour long session and I felt like I should have been looking away, giving him his privacy. And yes, when he was not around, we did tend to talk about him, but not particularly about his size or anything like that. Rather, it was about how it was uncomfortable having him watch us draw him. Of course, our model was rather overweight(not trying to be rude) so he wasn't the most pleasant person to look at anyway. Plus, many of the girls(myself included) are in relationships and didn't want to participate. So maybe it's different with other classes, but in mine, no one was concerned with his package.

I'm a woman taking life drawing classes at my university, and I don't see that it's degrading in any way. The ration of male models to female is here is around 2 to 5. I'm very impressed by the bravery of those who do choose to model! An erection is of course a hazard, but it's a natural function of the male human body (obviously comes with the territory). Usually the models will stare at a point on a far wall or the floor, and RARELY look at the students drawing them. I think this is a very good deterrence to arousal, as well as concentrating on something completely unrelated to the class (i.e. your physics homework).
Normally I find it in bad taste to discuss the models, because everyone's body is different. There are indeed some women who had never seen a naked male until their life drawing class, but I wouldn't know as to whether they were excited or reviled by it or not. I would hope that at college age they're mature enough to handle it, though. I personally find the variance in bodies fascinating. It can honestly occasionally be distracting, and these thoughts are also natural, but the point of being there is to draw and that's what the student has to concentrate on. ^^

hey steve and in general, i have always wondered about stuff like this and i love posts like steves that have acutally conversations in stead of the same thing being repeated constantly
and obviously your not shy but was it ever awkward at all like on your first day or something

what an interesting conversation. I am a male life model and 'sit" about twice a week in Art Societies and colleges. Quite often I get an erection but not a full one. Its quite pleasurable and I do not feel embarrassed. Sometimes after the drawing class, people talk to me about it.
