Today, I was excited by the thought of the bathroom in my rental being replaced after the plumber advised that the leak can't be easily fixed. Instead, the owner has decided to fully renovate and is kicking me out. FML

Today, after spending two weeks renovating my room and $1000 on paint and a new floor, my landlord told me that he's sold the house. Also, he was kind enough to inform me that unless I paint the walls back to white, I won't be getting my $500 deposit back. FML

Today, after months of delays, my home renovation is nearing completion. Well, it was nearing completion. Last night, a pipe burst, flooding the entire house. The water damage will cost more to repair than the entire renovation. FML

Today, I asked my landlady if she could fix the air conditioner that's been broken since I moved in. Instead, she came round and took away my bathroom mirror, along with all the toilet paper. FML

Today, I finally found a place to stay after being kicked out by my parents. The psycho owner waited till now to tell me that my bathroom door will remain locked at all times, and that whenever I want to go in there, I have to ask him to unlock it, then do my business while he waits outside. FML

Today, my landlord compared me to his idiot son for not plunging a toilet. This is the same toilet he explicitly told me not to plunge last week, because of a possible leak into the basement. We have been peeing outside for a week waiting on him. FML

Today, I remembered my landlord telling me that the renovation of our apartment would cause some "minor inconvenience during 3-5 days". We actually spent 5 WEEKS with no windows, no kitchen, and no bathroom, with construction workers appearing in my bedroom and telling me to get out at 7 a.m. FML

Today, I came home to my family remodeling our (extremely) out of date bathroom. I was SUPER excited to help them get it done. I walked down the hallway and opened my bedroom door to find a huge, gaping hole in my wall and my room covered in dust. I had to sweep every surface in my room. FML

Check out your contract. My contract said that if they want me to move out before the contract ends then they have to give me my full deposit and an additional two months for the inconvenience. You might have something similar.

I have personally never seen a lease agreement where they can flat out kick you out for renovations without a notice, or certain amount of money back with a notice? If you're in the US check your states tenant landlord laws, and re read your lease agreement. It's actually crazy just how many rights as a tenant you truely do have when renting!

Whenever I read FML's like this, I always wonder why there are countries where stuff like this is legal.. I am so glad to live in a country where you have lots of rights when renting a house so you basically cannot get kicked out by your landlord unless you have a methlab in your basement or something similar...

Sorry to hear. I know in the UK you cannot be straight up kicked out. I hope you have some sort of contract and time to find another place to live. Sounds like a crappy landlord.

There are such things as month to month leases people. Or the lease could be up. Happened to me, was there for 5 years after original lease was up, landlord decided to renovate & up the rent, so he kicked me out. It happens!
